North Greenville University (Science Education)
I grew up having a passion for knowledge and this is why motivated me to pursue a career in education. I attended North Greenville University from 2008-2012 and graduated summa cum laude with an honors scholar diploma in Secondary Education in Broad Field Science. Since graduating I have been teaching high school science and have taught a variety of science classes including Physical Science, Chemistry, Physics, ACT Prep, and AP Chemistry. This year I was a nominee for TSTA's Tennessee Science Teacher of the Year.
In addition to my public teaching experience, I have tutored part time for over two years in science and math, while working with a variety of ages. I am experienced in subject tutoring and exam prep, but also have worked with students to improve general study skills and academic methods. My passion for knowledge translates to a strong desire to see my students accomplish their goals.
In working with individual students I teach the material to fill in gaps in knowledge then have the student complete practice to ensure understanding. We also go over any homework or assignments and I keep track of progress each session in a personalized notebook.
I currently hold an active teaching certificate in Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. In addition to teaching high school science for four years, I have tutored privately in all subjects and ACT Prep.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to achieve your goals. Please contact me for details and to schedule your first session! Sarah has made such a difference in our daughter's efforts and organization in two weeks! we are so grateful and impressed!
Good blend of helping you through problems while allowing you to attempt solutions on your own. Good knowledge of the material & patient.
My daughter was very pleased with the help she received from Sarah in physics. We plan on continuing to work with her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored ACT prep privately for two years. All my students have shown growth after working with me. I have a structured tutoring program involving reviewing basic arithmetic skills, probability, algebra 1 and 2 basics, and geometry. I also work on time strategies and methods to overcome test-anxiety.
I have tutored ACT prep privately for two years. All my students have shown growth after working with me. I have a structured tutoring program involving improving skills such as data analysis, experiment evaluation, and understanding components of a good scientific argument. I follow a specific timeline to cover all skills, including time management, before the student's next test date.
My teaching certification in chemistry and physics requires me to have an in depth understanding of algebra to teach effectively. I also have tutored algebra for 3 years.
My certifications in chemistry and physics require me to use algebra 2 to solve problems on a regular basis. I am fluent in the content and have private tutoring experience with algebra 2.
I am a current high school teacher with a valid teaching license in biology.
I am certified in chemistry and am a current high school level 5 teacher.
I have been working with elementary-age students for two years. During a typical tutoring session, I first work with the student on filling in any missing skills and ensuring they understand the current material. The next step is to work ahead in the curriculum to increase the student's confidence with the subject.
My certification in teaching physics requires me to have an extensive understanding of geometric concepts. I have several years of experience tutoring students in geometry privately as well.
I have been a high school physics and chemistry teacher for four years and taught physical science for two of those. I am certified in both chemistry and physics, the two subjects that are introduced in physical science. During my time as a physical science teacher, I helped my student gain an in-depth understanding of matter, atomic structure, chemical reactions, kinetics and motion, electricity, magnetism, and waves.
I am a current high school Physics teacher and have a valid teaching certificate in Physics. I have been teaching physics for 4 years.
My certifications in chemistry and physics require me to have a fluency with algebra concepts, and thus I excel at prealgebra course content. I have been tutoring prealgebra privately for several years.
I have been working with students individually to improve their study skills for two years. There are a variety of skills that I focus on during a tutoring session. The student and I first work on an organizational system that is practical, simple, and works for the student. Once this is established, we move on to skills essential in school including proper note-taking, outlining, reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills. I make sure to teach these skill in relation to material that the student is currently working on, so they have a firm understanding of how these are applied to all subject areas.
