About Chip

When I was seven years old, I saw the Beatles debut on the Ed Sullivan show. What a blast! I was thinking "I want to make people go that crazy to music." So I learned how to play "Hang on Sloopy" by the age of eight and I was off to a music career. At thirteen with my brother and two best friends we did our first gig at our school. As soon as I could drive we hit the road to play in Nashville, Tennessee. By my senior year we were signed by the Armstrong Agency and playing in the Allman Brothers mansion in Macon Georgia. I had friends begging me to show them songs so I opened Chip's Music Studio when I was eighteen. I attended the University of Tennessee long enough to meet and record the head of the jazz department's great Jerry Coker, who was also the chief consultant for Columbia Pictures jazz division. This led to an engineering career with endorsements and work from Dizzy Gillespie to Motown's The Four Tops.

In the meantime, I would work with Elvis Presley's backup singer; two time grammy winner Janie Fricke, and then opened for The Charlie Daniels Band at" the oldest ball in the south" at Washington and Lee College. So in conclusion; with my formal training and the diverse performing of rock and roll, soul and country influences I have developed some highly productive teaching and tutoring techniques to help my students. So, whether you want to go pro or just need the wonderful satisfaction and therapy that music delivers, these tools will help you to play by ear, sight and the emotions of music.
