As a dedicated educator, I am committed to helping children by providing a warm, caring and respectful learning environment for them. I have provided elementary enrichment activities and homework help, as a Knox County tutor, independent tutor and preschool and elementary teacher. I will meet your child's individual learning needs by assessing their basic grade level skills and creating engaging, multi-sensory, age appropriate tutorial lessons. Additionally, I home schooled my children through middle school and have a working knowledge of lifelong learning skills/building blocks that aid a student in achieving future academic success. Finally, I will regularly communicate progress to parents through transcripts of tutoring session objectives met and areas needing improvement.
I am a TN certified teacher, Elementary K-6, with an M.Ed. from the University of Maryland and a B.S. in Elementary Education from Bucknell University. I have worked with gifted, special-needs and at-risk students in various settings including volunteer positions with KIDS HOPE, and as a leader of a Home Educators group, Sunday School teacher and teacher of a kindergarten church choir. I look forward to helping your student reach his/her potential.

My son has accomplished so much by having one on one time with Patty! He looking forward to her coming each week.
My kinder age child struggles in school, which is difficult for us as parents. We have tried everything to help, including hours and hours of one on one time, which she inevitably got so frustrated she wasn't interested in learning anything. Mrs. Patty has brought a whole new light to learning for her. She has a way of along her to have fun, but yet keeps her on track with learning. She has also been helpful on how we can help at home continue her progress. Highly recommended
My son does not enjoy school work at all but loves learning. After Ms. Patty left our house on the first session my son asked if he could do more work! Wow! I never hear that! The time they spent together sounded fun and entertaining!
Ms. Patty is very kind and encouraging to my preschooler. She quickly figured out the best learning style for him.
My child was behind at school and didn't want to go. After working with Patty he feels more confident and has moved up in his learning levels and resource class. She is a great tutor and we enjoy working with her.
She bonded easily with our Grandson--he liked her! She did well with assessing him and set up guidelines for his lessons this Summer. We're well pleased with her as a tutor.
Our 8 year old grandson enjoyed every minute of his tutoring session with Ms. Patty. She is well organized and gets a lot of concepts covered during the session. She does this by creating a fun and exciting atmosphere for learning! Our grandson cannot wait until his next session with Ms. Patty. She is an excellent tutor that we would highly recommend!
Ms. Patty consistently exceeds all of our expectations as she has inspired and enriched our grandson as he shows marked improvements in his academic abilities.
Ms. Patty continues to challenge, encourage and motivate Jackson all while he is having such fun! By using her insight about children and the way that they learn, she has discovered that Jackson is a visual learner. This is very important and useful information that affects Jackson now and will affect his future academic endeavors. She is such a treasure for our grandson and our family! He is making progress under Ms. Patty's tutoring that is showing up in his classroom grades. He made 10/10 on Math this past week, I cannot tell you how much that meant to him!
Ms. Patty is a great tutor! Our son has taken to her very well and she makes learning fun for him.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor in this area as I am certified in Tennessee as an Elementary teacher. I also earned a M.Ed. from the University of Maryland. Finally, I have tutored and taught Reading and Math to at-risk, and gifted students in various settings.
I am a certified K-6 Elementary Teacher with a Master's in Education. I have taught Math in a Kindergarten setting, as a Knox County and private tutor and to my own home schooled children. Using a variety of hands-on materials and practice problems, I assist children by building strong Math foundation skills.
My approach to teaching English as a second language could be characterized as Direct-method. Utilizing this method I would stress vocabulary acquisition, listening and reading while giving the student immediate feedback on completion of these tasks. As an elementary reading/writing teacher I believe I have the skills necessary to encourage an ESL student as learning a second language parallels first language development.
I am a certified K-6 Elementary Teacher with a Master's in Education. I have taught reading in Kindergarten, as a Knox County and private tutor and to my home schooled children. My approach tends to be classical in the sense that I focus on phonics and introducing short vowel sounds so that children are able to put together short words very quickly. As children progress we practice reading fluently, comprehension and understanding plot, setting, characters and theme.
