About Bobby

Howdy, I'm Bobby! I would love the opportunity to make a difference in your student's life through the ACT. I love what I do, and I am blessed to be very good at it. Whether you are starting on the high end of 30 or above or on the low end, my students consistently score at least a 3 point composite increase. With almost all of the other programs in town, a 2 point composite increase is an accomplishment. More than just improving on the ACT though, students and parents will get help with the admissions process, scholarships, and learning how to get the most out of their college experience. On average, every point higher on the ACT is worth an extra $2500 in scholarship money. Maryville College even gives $19,000 a year ($76,000 over 4 years) for a 19 on the ACT. It pays to prep, and I am the best in Knoxville at consistently getting results on the ACT.

I was originally trained in tutoring by TRiO Student Support Services. Later I was hired by Pellissippi State as one of their main math tutors. Now I work full time with Outlier's Advantage: Knoxville In-home Tutoring as the Lead ACT prep tutor. I also train all of the other ACT prep tutors there. I love what I do, and I am the only full-time tutor in Knoxville who only tutors the ACT.

My story is a bit different than most tutors, and that is what makes me stand apart. I was a horrible student in high school. I had to retake Algebra 1 five times during high school, and I eventually dropped out of high school. However, I went through a turning point in my life, got my GED, and enrolled at Pellissippi State. There I had mentors who took me under their wings and helped me reach my potential. I made almost perfect straight As at Pellissippi, was president of the student body, and made it on USA Today's All Tennessee Academic Team. I then transferred to Maryville College where I was named the Resident Assistant of the Year, won the Filome Ford Leadership Award, and went on to win the international Student Excellence Award from Southwestern Advantage. All of this came about because of the mentors who helped me along the way. I am a professional tutor because I want to spend my life being what those mentors were to me by helping students achieve at their potential.

I know my prices are higher than other tutors, but it is not exactly comparing apples to apples. First, my price per point will often end up costing less than with others because of the results that I get in the time that I spend with students. Second, the hourly rate is only charged for our weekly two hour sessions, but it is also paying for the time that I spend between sessions with your student. I am literally in contact every single day with everyone of my students via text or phone. We make goals at the end of each session of exactly what the student needs to do each day that week. Then they text me every day to let me know how they did on their goals for that day. I will also text them back advice or encouragement every day. It is not uncommon for me to spend hours working with a student between sessions. There is no extra charge for this because it is all worked into the price.

As with all ACT tutors, I fail sometimes. I can't guarantee results, but I will give your students everything I've got to help them be successful on the ACT. I hope you will consider me for your ACT prep needs:)

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I am the only full time ACT prep tutor in Knoxville. I love what I do, and I happen to be really good at it. I have been tutoring it for 3 1/2 years now, and I consistently get better results than any other program in town.

I have been tutoring the SSAT and ISEE for the past year now. I have used the offical SSAT prep book, the Princeton Review prep book, and the Kaplan Prep book, as well as numerous websites. I have also memorized the 300 most common SSAT/ISEE words, and have created a system to teach them to my students. I would love the opportunity to help your student get into the private school of their choice!

Linear Algebra

I made an almost perfect 100 in my Linear Algebra class in college. I was then employed by my college to tutor this math class along with others. I now tutor full time as a professional tutor.

Study Skills

I do academic coaching with students where I start teaching them organizational skills, and goal setting. I then provide accountability to the students by having them email me their goals every day so I can keep up with their progress. I also meet with them once a week to to teach them a different skill to focus on for the week, and tutor them in any areas we find gaps. I was trained in tutoring by TRiO student support services - I was trained in motivation by the Southwestern Company - I have been working on a college campus for more than 8 years now.
