I attend monthly professional development trainings in reading and have had several opportunities to sit under highly experienced teachers to learn from their reading instruction techniques.
In teaching kindergarten, my students have to start at the basics to be able to read books throughout the year. I begin with teaching phonics including letter and sound recognition going into using picture clues and beginning sounds to identify unknown words.

Nicole worked great with my son. She kept me informed on every thing she was doing while working with my son. She figured out parts of the problems and worked to help fix them. She was very helpful. Glad I found her and will be using her again if needed. Highly recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In my experience with Kingsport City Schools, our curriculum relies on Common Core standards, as well as state standards. I have prepared lessons based solely on the common core standards during my education at Milligan College, student teaching, and presently in my current teaching role. I am experienced with Common Core math, as well.
I am currently a certified teacher at an elementary school in Kingsport. I have had student teaching experiences in two other Kingsport schools and have taught elementary math, reading, and social studies.
As a kindergarten teacher, I start at the basics in order to get my students to reading level by the end of each grading period. I start with letter identification, move on to letter/sound recognition, to beginning sounds in words, then to ending sounds, etc. I also teach students in reading instruction to use picture clues and beginning sounds in order to identify unknown words. These skills are then transferred to writing instruction as students are expected to use their knowledge of letter ID and letter/sound recognition in order to produce beginning sounds of words and then continue to move on to ending sounds, medial sounds, sight words, etc.
I am a certified teacher with an education degree from Milligan College where I took courses specialized in reading instruction including Children's Literature, Literacy Development, and Reading Processes and Assessment. Of course, my program also included instruction on Teaching Methods and ways to creatively teach subjects and differentiate instruction.
I am currently a teacher with Kingsport City Schools where I teach reading and phonics and participate in monthly professional development to improve my reading instruction. I have had several experiences, also, to sit under veteran teachers to learn from their reading instruction. I have worked with remedial students in upper grades to get them closer to grade level reading and have taught young students the foundations of literacy.
