I have tutored several friends of my own children along with my own friend's children. The concensus is that my methods allow the students to think through the process and they like the one on one they get. The test scores go up minimally by one grade and I have also had the successes of three grades higher. These advances are more about the student than the teacher. I find that most students were lacking in the basics preventing them from keeping up with the more advance classes. I currently have two nephews that have these issues but were already seeing tutors prior to me moving here.
I love to see the moment kids have when they finally get it. There seems to be a lightbulb that goes on internally and they start to challenge themselves by completing the assignments more expeditiously or doing more. The highlight is the grades getting better and how proud they are to show their parents that they are capable. I find that the new school system with too many students leaves too many to fall through the cracks and this is where a tutor can help.
As an Electrical Engineering student I've had to take a ridiculous amount of mathematics courses. I find that the basics of mathematics is addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. If a student can master those four building blocks then all mathematics is easy. My children made me a great math tutor by allowing me to teach them the basic tools. They consistly tell me how they teach others things I've taught them which make me proud.
Having English as my native tongue and loving the language, I pride myself on proper grammer and vocabulary. My generation found spelling to be extremely important, therefore, I deem it to be a positive to be able to spell the words you use. I find this to be the easiest subject in school simply because I speak it daily and although I know most kids abbreviate the language there is something to be said for someone who speaks properly especially if that child wants to travel.
If you or your child wants to improve in the subjects I tutor just contact me. I'm not fancy or difficult, I just do what is requested of me. I will assess your current status and move up according to what I think your capabilities are. Feel free to contact me as your tutor. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
