University of Memphis (English)
My name is Earl. I am a 2013 University of Memphis graduate with a degree in English with a concentration in creative writing. From 2007 until 2011, I worked as a professional writing tutor and registration aid at Jackson State Community College. During my time there, I worked closely with professors within the English Department and even served as a writing fellow and teacher's assistant to Anna Harrington and Dr. Teri Maddox.
What made me stand apart from other tutors was my willingness to learn and re-learn lessons with my clients, as well as my enthusiasm to see them succeed. I never assume my knowledge pool is infallible, because I remember what it was like to be unsure of my writing and to know nothing about composition. I believe that being able to relate to students in that way helps me better explain concepts. If a person is looking for a proofreader to verify that everything he or she puts to paper is golden, however, I am not the right tutor. Rather than simple proofreading, I will ask questions of my clients about their work to make them feel connected to the essay, paragraph, or sentence to ensure they are learning and to also instill confidence in them that they will need to succeed without me.
If you want someone who will help you understand and grow as a writer, I am the tutor to contact. Thank you for your consideration. My name is Earl. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been working with computers since early 1999. I am familiar with Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista, 7, and 8. On a professional level, I was required to troubleshoot both Windows and Mac OSX as a tutor at Jackson State Community College. I even work part-time assembling computers and troubleshooting software problem within the operating system.
