About Jerod

Bio

I have taught college English and cinema studies for eight years and look forward to opportunities to help pupils develop literature, speech, language, and writing skills at all stages of development. In addition to my career at the university, I have tutored special-needs students in middle and high school, including developing a pilot program for at-risk, inner-city youth. I have also worked as an ACT test prep instructor and speech/forensics coach. I also spend the months school is out of...

I have taught college English and cinema studies for eight years and look forward to opportunities to help pupils develop literature, speech, language, and writing skills at all stages of development. In addition to my career at the university, I have tutored special-needs students in middle and high school, including developing a pilot program for at-risk, inner-city youth. I have also worked as an ACT test prep instructor and speech/forensics coach. I also spend the months school is out of session making films and doing freelance film work.

My tutoring involves a process oriented approach that develops student skills rather that just giving answers. I also teach the fundamentals of subjects such as grammar and paragraphing so students understand why rules exists and what it means to follow them.

In addition, I am an independent filmmaker with a short film currently on the festival circuit). I have also published on film in such academic journals as CINEACTION and FILM INTERNATIONAL, the collections WORLD CINEMA AND THE VISUAL ARTS, and POSTCOLONIAL FILM: IMAGINING IDENTITY, and my current book manuscript.
