I have recently moved to the Nashville area from Tampa, Florida and have decided to take the year off from teaching. When I lived in Tampa, I worked at a private school and loved to work with students one on one after school to really hone in on their academic needs. My goal as a teacher and a tutor is always to make learning fun and engaging for students by incorporating games, technology, movement, art and music.
My favorite subject to work on is emergent reading. I love to watch children move from recognizing the alphabet to stringing words together to eventually working on reading comprehension. Witnessing and facilitating that growth is so rewarding!
When I was younger, math was my hardest subject. Now, as a teacher, I can see that FUN was what was missing from all of my math lessons as a child. I strive to include as many skill-based games as possible to "trick" students into learning and practicing math.
I have been tutoring in reading specifically for 3 years now on top of my classroom teaching experiences.
I am also an excellent proofreader and can teach my skills to an older student who may be in need of sharpening their writing skills.
I have vast curriculum knowledge and the ability to make learning fun for students based on their personal interests. My schedule is also currently wide open, so I would be available during "school hours" to work with students or groups at their home.
I have spent 3 years in a kindergarten classroom, and two years in a first and second grade classroom. It's all about phonics there! This is where I shine. :) I use an elementary reading curriculum that builds strategically from letter recognition to reading comprehension, and I like to incorporate as many outside tools as I can to keep my students excited about meeting with me.
I am very excited to see what comes during my move to Tennessee and am looking forward to meeting new students and their families. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to set up a time to meet with your child to see if we click. :) I have recently moved to the Nashville area from Tampa, Florida and have decided to take the year off from teaching. It is my belief that an understanding of phonics is an essential skill in the foundation of reading. Throughout my teaching career, I have used games and lessons that incorporate letter and blend sounds to help enhance students' understanding of the way letters come together to make sounds in the English language.
