Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I passed WyzAnt's qualifications to administer algebra lessons. I have also had experience teaching algebra/math as a subject area to students, of whom English was their second language.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am qualified to teach K-6 elementary subject areas due to my high score on the PRAXIS test. I achieved top 15% on the test, and I was acknowledged from the makers of the test for my score. I taught students K-6 in all subject areas for 3+ years.

Elementary Math

I passed the state-mandated tests (PRAXIS) with a score in the top 15% in order to teach all subject matter on the K-6 level. I also passed WyzAnt test requirements in mathematics.

English

I am certified to teach English in the state of Tennessee. I teach study skills, writing, reading, and English language arts. This is my seventh year teaching. I appreciate your consideration.

ESL/ESOL

I've taught K-12 ESL for four years in public schools in Tennessee. I am certified to teach ELL/ESL/ESOL in Tennessee. I also have my master's degree in education with an emphasis in ESOL. I find joy in working with students from all cultural and language backgrounds!

Flute

I was a flute performance student when I achieved my music education degree. I have played the flute since 1996. I taught band for 4 years and gave private lessons for 7 years.

General Music

I graduated with my bachelor's degree in music education. I am certified to teach K-12 music in the state of Tennessee. I have previously taught music in the public school system for 3.5 years.

Reading

I have worked with a variety of students with Response to Intervention (RtI) needs. There are numerous paths to learning, so I pride myself in being adaptable to teach in ways that are best for the individual student.

Study Skills

I have taught study skills to my students for the past seven years. I teach different study skills/procedures depending on the subject area. While teaching study skills and language arts, social studies, or science materials, I incorporate metacognition strategies. When I teach math, I tend to find a relevant study skill, like UPSL. Teaching a process, like metacognition or UPSL, usually helps students find success in the subject matter. This success brings the student back to using the study skills. It's a wonderful cycle!

Writing

My qualifications as a teacher for the state of Tennessee include: English (grades 7-12), elementary content (grades K-6), English as a Second Language (grades K-12), and instrumental music (grades K-12).

Helpful Tutor

She worked with Braylon on reading, sounding out letters, writing, and putting words together. She played games to make it more interesting for him. I agree with Jennifer and him being everywhere. I feel that his confidence will get better. We bought Braylon some books and Jennifer and Braylon read together.
