About Michael

Dear Future Student,

My name is Mike and I graduated from the University of Houston's prestigious Honors College with a Major in Psychology and a Minor in English. I went on to become a certified English teacher and then onto becoming an administrator for my district. I have a strong writing, reading, and grammar background: I can teach you to quickly write and read better than you thought possible.

Currently I work for Maury County as a Web Design Instructor. I have a Master's degree from Texas A&M in Education and Curriculum with a focus on student academic success and belief (self-efficacy). What this means is I am highly trained to help you become successful. We can quickly identify your low areas, design a method for addressing these needs, and move you toward practice and instruction that will make you successful.

I am focused, and highly trained at identifying student needs. My ability to identify student needs is a great strength I use when designing a program for success.

I realized during my years as a teacher that for some students: learning can be arduous...but it can also become fun and looked forward to, if you are taught the skills to be successful. I will help you discover your learning language!

Mr. Twigg

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

In my undergrad at the University of Houston Honors College I had 18 hours of Anthropology. I will never forget what I learned because the main professor taught all the classes and she had an insane amount of notes. I got all A's and because of her changed my Major to Psychology. I still read and follow journals and information geared to the anthropological aspect of study in our current culture. I used my ANTH classes in Conjunction with PSYC during my Thesis: Prognostications of Student Self-Efficacy Regarding Extra Curricular Activities (Basically does being in extra-curricular activities and believing good things turn into life-success). I used the NELS (National Educational Longitudinal Study) to follow 8th graders from 8th grade to ages 25-28 and used this anthropological information to form my thesis work on our modern day American society.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I am currently certified as a teacher and principal in Texas and Tennessee and was the first teacher in my district to team teach inclusion students with Autism and other issues. I deal with IEP's and learning needs across spectrum disorders daily. I have a master's degree from Texas A&M in Education and Curriculum and had to pass several classes centered around ESL and Phonics mastery issues--we worked with phonemes, morphemes, etc.

.

Baseball

I currently run and maintain our little league website, forms, rules...etc. I've played baseball my entire life (I'm 41), and I'm the goto guy for the leagues umpires and players regarding rules. I'm the Information Manager for the league.

Bible Studies

My Honors focus at the University of Houston was centered around Religion and Culture. I received A+'s in all these courses and have been the Principal and board member at a private Christian school: RELS3396H Religion and Personality; PSYC2380 Intro Social Psychology; HON2301H Human Situation: Antiquity; HON2101H Human Situation: Modernity; and PSYC2344H Cultural Psychology.

Chess

I was the chess coach for Waller Junior High School in Waller, Texas for 5 years. I started the district Chess Program, and currently several elementary programs were started as feeder programs for the Junior High program. I've played my entire life and am active on a leading chess website with a relative rating of around 1300.

Criminal Justice

I studied for 2 years to become a police officer and was a top contender before a motorcycle wreck that left me paralyzed. I used the POST certification books for study and took tests for most major cities. I also used POP (People Oriented Policing) to foster good public relations. I am currently involved in student based organizations for law enforcement Explorers program and started a unit in Waller, Texas. My heart lives and breathes criminal justice. I also manage a law website, and have law library experience.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently certified as a teacher and principal in Texas and Tennessee, I am certified to administrate K-12 in both states.

Film

I had a great Honors program experience at The University of Houston utilizing the works of Alfred Hitchcock (N. by N.W., The Birds, and several others) juxtaposed with the writings of Sigmund Freud...several of my psychology classes utilized current films to understand common psychological phenomena, along with understanding the main themes and concepts presented through the art. All of these focused and centered on the psychoanalysis of film and genera regarding film, films, and culture from antiquity to modernity. I still find myself analyzing everything I watch from these perspectives.

Martial Arts

I studied Hopkido for 3 years during high school and currently MMA which is a mixture of modern day jujitsu, judo, kungfu, wrestling, and boxing...I live this! Daily!

Phonics

I have a master's degree from Texas A&M in Education and Curriculum and had to pass several classes centered around ESL and Phonics mastery issues--we worked with phonemes, morphemes, etc.

Political Science

I had the opportunity of being in an honors program at the University of Houston; where along with Honors courses I was able to intern at the Houston City counsel for two semesters. I was council member Rob Todd's UofH intern and had the honor of working next to Sheila Jackson Lee's office...as an intern I saw a lot and learned what to do and what not to do in politics. I learned about constituents, public law and policy, as well as working one on one with the office lawyer Alex Thompson.

I was very involved with following and visiting Austin, Texas during George Bush's campaign while producing artwork for t-shirts, and managing campaign support for the republican party.

I earned all high marks in my classes all A's and 1 B+:

POLS1336H Honors US & Texas Const/Politics
POLS3318 Intro to Public Policy
POLS4390 Government Internship
POLS4398 Government Special Problems - Internship

I'm a Texas and Tennessee certified teacher and administrator. I have studied for and passed several of these tests. As well as being a great student I am well versed in tutoring and have helped many teachers and fellow administrators study for and pass their exams.

I am the go to guy on my campus for help with Praxis testing.

Public Speaking

As a UIL coach for 7 years I worked with the PROSE team which was a public speaking aspect of the UIL (University Interscholastic League). Public speaking is front and center with this program.

Currently I am a coach for DECA (International Association of marketing students, provides members and advisors with development activities.). We have County, State, Regional, and National competitions ranging from a multitude of verbal aspects. Public speaking is front and center with this program. I am a coach and Public Presenting tutor for UIL and DECA and have been so for a number of years.

QuickBooks

I currently run and manage a website which offers technology and website database tutoring and help for: school districts, companies, and Emergency Service Districts. I offer a wide range of skills for web services especially geared toward companies. As a certified CIW web designer, I'm also licensed as web design teacher for the state of TN which encompasses programs like quick books. I've been working with this program and technology since 1999. I offer 1 on 1 courses for help with Quick books software.

Special Needs

I am currently certified as a teacher and principal in Texas and Tennessee and was the first teacher in my district to team teach inclusion students with Autism and other issues. I deal with IEP's and learning needs across spectrum disorders daily. Part of my certification as an administrator is fulfillment of the special needs area for many spectrum disorders--it's part of the qualifications for being able to sit on an IEP and Special ED meetings. I gained my Principal Certification from Texas A&M and passed with a 4.0.

Study Skills

I am an Honors College Graduate from The University of Houston. I graduated with a 3.91 and Summa Cum Laude. I graduated from Texas A&M with a 4.0 with a Masters in Education.
