About Rosh

WELCOME to all students, parents, and learners,

I decided to shorten my bio because nobody wants to read an autobiography, they'd rather know how I can help them, or their child, improve their knowledge/understanding, test scores, or grades. I will tell you that I graduated cum laude from Rhodes in biochemistry and molecular biology, and have worked in many hospitals and research laboratories over the years, currently at St. Jude and Methodist.

I have taken my fair share of standardized tests, like the SAT, ACT, various AP exams, SAT for biology, ACS for chemistry, and MCAT. Although my time taking these tests is far from over, I feel very confident about my strategy and plan of attack for mastering them, considering my 90th percentile score on the MCAT and acceptance into medical school. I have had to take some truly challenging courses in college, and med school classes will be even harder, but I am not worried at all and feel highly confident in my study skills and abilities. It is by no accident that I feel this way, and you can too! All it takes is some guidance, a plan, and the desire to follow through with it.

I have tutored students of all ages in all kinds of subjects, such as English, arithmetic, geometry, algebra, trigonometry, chemistry, biology, ACT, SAT, Praxis, AP, grammar, physical science, bioorganic chemistry, and more. I have tutored children with special needs, high-risk students with prior criminal records, young children trying to get ahead in school, and even college students struggling to pass a class. About half of my students have been for ACT/SAT/AP preparation, and we have seen a drastic improvement of about 4-5 points in most cases.

I am easy to communicate and get along with, and will go at a pace that is most comfortable with the particular student I'm working with. If you feel that I can be of help to you or your loved one, don't hesitate to send me a message now.

THANK YOU for taking the time read, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

This was my favorite and highest-scoring section when I took the ACT. I scored a 35 out of 36. Also, grammar was my strongest area in English throughout middle and high school.

Algebra 1

I took Algebra 1 a couple years early, and I found it to be a lot of fun and very useful for most of the complex math and science I am doing now in college. I also participated in an algebra competition in Huntsville, AL with White Station High School.

Biology

High school is where my love for biology began. I took Honors Biology, Advanced Placement (AP) Biology, and I received an A grade in both classes. I also took the SAT Biology Subject Test and scored a 93% on the first try. Biology is a subject that I enjoy teaching as much as I enjoy learning it. The research I do for malaria and breast cancer use a lot of what I learned.

Chemistry

Although I have tutored Chemistry both at Rhodes College and the University of Memphis, it was not until my senior year of college that I grew a strong love for chemistry. Since middle school I have loved learning about biology, anatomy, and physiology, but the fundamentals of chemistry proved to be infinitely important for understanding exactly how and why certain molecules act the way they do and particular processes function. It is for this reason I chose the connected major of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology since both topics involve and interconnect the various aspects of biology, chemistry, physics, etc., in order to explain and predict phenomena, like oxidative phosphorylation and fatty acid biosynthesis. Without a solid foundation in chemistry, a thorough, in-depth understanding of biology/biochemistry will be unmanageable. Also, chemistry affects the way everything acts in the physical world, so learning it can prove highly beneficial.

Elementary Math

I have taught elementary math to children throughout high school.

SAT Writing

I got a score of 780 out of 800 on the SAT writing section, and I have a very strong understanding and background of grammar.
