About Rosh

HELLO to all parents, students, and learners,

I have always believed in acquiring a holistic view of education that involves nurturing the mind (knowledge and reasoning), body (health and wellness), and soul (art and ethics). Being an AP Scholar, National Merit Scholar, and All-West violinist from White Station High, attending Rhodes College was an excellent way for me to continue being academically well-rounded. I knew quite from the start of middle school that I wanted to pursue medicine, and I have recently applied for medical school and have received my entrance exam (MCAT) results. It turns out that my hard work paid off, as I scored in the top 90th percentile. I was fortunate enough to major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with a concentration in Pre-medical studies. Throughout college, I have performed laboratory and clinical research in cystic fibrosis (UTHSC), malaria (Rhodes), breast cancer (UTHSC), cardiovascular function (LeBonheur Children's Research Hospital), and I am currently doing chemotherapy research over at St. Jude in pharmaceutical sciences. I have also shadowed physicians at various hospitals throughout Memphis, and I recently began a position in the Emergency Department at Methodist.

The MCAT requires college-level knowledge of basic and upper-level topics in Physics (Kinematics and Electromagnetism), General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Critical Analysis and Reading Skills, Biology I and II, Biochemistry, Psychology, Sociology, and Math. Because the MCAT requires a solid understanding of this wide range of subjects and skills, I consider myself proficient to teach any of them. I have tutored students for the SAT and ACT exams for several years now with high success. In the past couple years, I have also tutored for college level general chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, and the Optometry Admission Test (OAT). I am highly confident in tutoring any subject or exam at, or below, the level of the MCAT.

In high school, I gained experience tutoring special needs children at Richmond Elementary School, and I was one of four students accepted to be a paid tutor at two alternative (for students involved in crime) schools, based on my SAT score. I was able to witness first-hand certain students changing from people with no direction or hope in their lives to people with goals, ambitions, and the means to accomplish them. Therefore, I have ample experience tutoring children and teenagers with various types of personalities and characteristics. In college, I have learned how to tutor students of my own age and background as well, and at this point in my career, I have tutored people of all age groups in many different subjects, classes, and exams. It has in fact become a passion of mine to spread knowledge.

The reason that you should choose me as your tutor is that I have developed and implemented a tutoring process that has never failed, to this date. The first step for us will be to identify, acknowledge, and focus on the deep-rooted weaknesses you or your child possesses. Next, we will go in-depth to combat any lack of knowledge, information, or understanding, by carefully studying the material. Finally, we will do enough practice for these specific areas so that the use of the knowledge and understanding will be committed to memory, and essentially second nature.

Thank you all so much for your time, and I hope to hear from you guys soon!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

This was my favorite and highest-scoring section when I took the ACT. I scored a 35 out of 36. Also, grammar was my strongest area in English throughout middle and high school.

Algebra 1

I took Algebra 1 a couple years early, and I found it to be a lot of fun and very useful for most of the complex math and science I am doing now in college. I also participated in an algebra competition in Huntsville, AL with White Station High School.

High school is where my love for biology began. I took Honors Biology, Advanced Placement (AP) Biology, and I received an A grade in both classes. I also took the SAT Biology Subject Test and scored a 93% on the first try. Biology is a subject that I enjoy teaching as much as I enjoy learning it. The research I do for malaria and breast cancer use a lot of what I learned.

Although I have tutored Chemistry both at Rhodes College and the University of Memphis, it was not until my senior year of college that I grew a strong love for chemistry. Since middle school I have loved learning about biology, anatomy, and physiology, but the fundamentals of chemistry proved to be infinitely important for understanding exactly how and why certain molecules act the way they do and particular processes function. It is for this reason I chose the connected major of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology since both topics involve and interconnect the various aspects of biology, chemistry, physics, etc., in order to explain and predict phenomena, like oxidative phosphorylation and fatty acid biosynthesis. Without a solid foundation in chemistry, a thorough, in-depth understanding of biology/biochemistry will be unmanageable. Also, chemistry affects the way everything acts in the physical world, so learning it can prove highly beneficial.

Elementary Math

I have taught elementary math to children throughout high school.

SAT Writing

I got a score of 780 out of 800 on the SAT writing section, and I have a very strong understanding and background of grammar.
