About Elizabeth

With experience teaching Latin, US History, AP European History and ACT Preparation at the high school level, I am now a stay-at-home mom looking to share my love of learning and these subjects with new students.

Critically exploring and questioning the multifaceted elements of the human experience with primary sources is the core of my teaching philosophy. Reading comprehension is thus the key to success in the humanities. I am very committed to building high quality writing skills in my students. Writing well is a skill that students will use in almost every career available today, from college applications to a sales report. I will focus on helping students articulate arguments and following them through with persuasive evidence to arrive at new conclusions.

As a lover of language, I use my understanding of Classical languages to help students achieve a foundational knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary that they can implement as they come into contact with new words and concepts.

I continue to be an avid student, understanding the rigorous educational foundation necessary to achieve entrance to and success in highly selective colleges. I hold a B.A. in Classics and History from Williams College and an M.Ed. in Secondary Social Studies Education from Vanderbilt. I also spent five months in Rome exploring classical, medieval and renaissance art and archaeology.

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Excellent

Elizabeth not only has the knowledge but can also teach it. I listened in on some of her session with my daughter. Without a doubt, she was able to find my daughter's weaknesses in Latin and correct them. Her demeanor and attentiveness are delightful!
