My first published photograph was in the early 60's while owning my own studio when I was a sophomore in high school. I was a photographer in the Air Force and then went directly to Hollywood, CA, to learn from the best photographers in the world. After I assisted one of the worlds top personality photographers for 3 years, I was shooting editorial, commercial, gallery, and portrait photography specializing with people in the entertainment industry, high profile executive portraits and high end weddings. Through the years I've experienced a wonderful experience working with all people no matter who they are or what they have accomplished in their life. Everyone is special and capturing those special moments of that person's life has become my goal.
After I left the service, I also achieved three college degrees and began teaching at Los Angeles Valley College and it's Outreach Programs. I was then asked to teach at another college called Pierce College in another part of the San Fernando Valley just north of Los Angeles. I taught within the LA System 23 years. When I left California, I taught at the New England School Of Photography in Boston, MA and then 10 years at Nashville State Community College courses from Basic to Advanced in Portraiture and Weddings. I also taught an internet/web course in weddings for 6 years at Better Photo on the West Coast to students throughout the world. During these times I've also lectured, judged print competitions, given photo seminars, and held private instruction for a select number of students.
My work has taken me throughout the United States, Europe, and Canada for advertising and publicity. My work has appeared all over the world with thousands of publications. I have had businesses in 5 different states and many well known publications. My photographs have been awarded, best of show, first place acknowledgments, and have been nominated for other high achievement recognition.
My approach in private tutoring is to first find out where you are at in your own photography adventure and then take you to the next steps that you'd like to achieve. I know there are many who are afraid to understand the fundamentals of photography but that's what will allow you to produce quality images on a consistent basis. Master those areas that have been confusing and enjoy your photography by knowing you will be able to capture the images and moments that are very special and be able to communicate and share your images for years to come. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
