If it isn't fun, then it isn't worth it! Learning should not feel like a "test", be boring, or come over us as a sense of dread. I strive to dissolve these moods by encouraging my students to "get it wrong" first. Yes, you heard me correctly. Let's get it wrong first then the only mistake you can make after that is to "get it right" ! Simply put, my method of teaching photography is one that sees the great asset of taking creative risks despite the outcome on the technical level as well as the artistic. Always fail forward! You see, I know the common mistakes new photography enthusiasts often make, so let's start with those and then we will watch the "correct" alternatives reveal themselves magically! With this approach we keep the learning process light and non-intimidating yet very informative and very effective.

If you want to learn photography, I am worth every penny. If it isn't fun, then it isn't worth it! Learning should not feel like a "test", be boring, or come over us as a sense of dread. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a theatre graduate, Jonathan is sure to not only provide exquisite and "alive" pictures, but also an unforgettable experience. He has the ability to bring out the most unique characteristics of each person he photographs and at the same time he creates a sense of ease. His passion, creativity and down to earth "realness" illuminates throughout his photo sessions and final product. It will be no surprise to find yourself experiencing much laughter, joy, love and fun whether you are a model or a student. This same gift he uses almost unconsciously when teaching photography and it is ultimately what he hopes to pass on to each student.
For the past 10 years as a freelance photographer, Jonathan has indulged himself in weddings, kids/family/pet, music, dance, architecture and nature photography, but more specifically portraiture. His photography development takes him back to his first high school elective, through college curriculum, Nashville Tech and his own determined self education. Most recently he has had the opportunity to be under the tutorial ship of world renowned fashion/food photographer, George Seper (Vogue, Vogue Food, Mode Magazine, Cleo, GQ and Cosmopolitan) through the Photography Institute and utilizes much of this experience in his present tutoring sessions. Jonathan's roots are from Upstate New York. He has migrated all over the country with his art - from Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, NYC, and now currently resides in Franklin, TN.
