About Monica

I specialize in PROOFREADING and teaching writing in all genres including English Composition grades 7-12 and college level (I have taught middle and high school as well as college level English composition), and creative writing in all genres grades 7-12, college, and adults. I have tutored previously and worked individually with over 150 students and writers spanning from ages 11-70.

I have been the Creative Writing teacher at Chattanooga State, teaching a multi-genre creative writing workshop, for five semesters. There, I coached, counseled, workshopped and taught my students practical and applicable strategies for creative writing in all genres. I have taught novel writing, fiction writing, poetry writing, and at the University of Oregon an upper division creative writing year long course that spanned all genres. I consider teaching the craft of writing my calling and truly love what I do. I am a writer myself and have dedicated the past ten years of my life to the close study of real world writing strategies. Want to pen the novel idea that's been in your head for ten years? Let me help you. I have extensive editing, revision, and proofreading experience and will support you in your work as little or much as you need me to. Lessons will be created on a case-by-case basis. Whether it's a complete novel project you commit to, or a single session on story beginnings or formal poetry, I will put forth my best effort to ensure you produce your best work.

A little bit about me: My BA is in English, Writing, and Secondary Education from MTSU. In 2011 I received my MFA degree in Creative Writing from the University of Oregon: a top ten nationally ranked Creative Writing Program that accepts and funds less than 4% of all applicants. I have completed one book of poetry and am at work on a second. A novel is also in progress. In addition to my work with adult and college level creative writers, I have taught and mentored middle school and high school creative writing students.

For proofreading, YOU don't have to be online for me to revise and proofread once I have your directions and papers.

Please contact me if you are interested in a consultation for a session. I prefer online sessions and have a flexible schedule!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Awesome!

Monica helped me with my personal statement several times. She did well on it! She gave me lots of "a-ha" moments and always get exactly what I want to say! She respects the original intention of the author, and I believe that's the most valuable things in editing! She is also very patient, and explain all my confusions.
