About Sarah

While I am new to Wyzant, I have been teaching English writing and ESL conversation/writing in universities and high schools for eight years, both in the United States and in Asia. Though I've spent lots of time in front of a class, I much prefer the learning style of tutoring or home school, and I have found tutoring so much more effective for helping my students make leaps of progress! As a summa cum laude graduate, I take learning seriously, but that doesn't mean it always has to be serious! Having focused tutoring attention helps me guide you in meeting your learning goals beyond what average classrooms can offer. Plus, it's so much more fun to get to talk and listen one-on-one instead of being part of an unknown sea of faces. Each student I've met has his or her own unique story, and with tutoring, I can get a glimpse into that story and maybe share some of mine in the process.

Studying English literature in both college and grad school helped prepare me to look for the big picture in what I read and write. It helped me be a critical thinker and reader, trained to analyze and break down writing and ideas into understandable pieces. I'm also very details-oriented by nature, and so I like the process of learning new languages, teaching people how to proofread effectively, looking for subtle ways to improve one's public speaking ability, or finding small details in Bible or literature texts that reveal common themes. Whether your learning needs fall along these lines or you're wanting to learn something else language- or writing-related, let me know. I look forward to getting to work with you!

I have have taught English Composition to freshmen college students. I am a TEFL-certified ESL teacher, and have also taught EFL English conversation writing to beginner and intermediate college students. I have taught children's literature, 20th Century American short stories, paragraph writing, speech and public speaking, Broadway Musicals in Film, and Medical English to university students in South Korea (to non-native and bilingual English speakers).

I am available for online and in-person tutoring sessions most days between 10am and 9pm (no lessons on Sundays). Note: if you need a proofreader, it's a different rate ($3-6 per page--depending on for grammar or for content--rather than a per hour rate) from tutoring.

Procrastination isn't the way to progress. Why not use well the time that you have today? Think through your learning needs, and then contact me about setting up tutoring sessions!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
