About Donna

Educating children, helping them feel and be successful life-long learners has been my passion and blessing for 22 1/2 years. Making learning fun and exciting for children drives my teaching style. I believe teaching involves modeling and practice. I use the method: I do, we do, you do, in order to ingrain the strategies and concepts the child is learning. My teaching approach also includes strategies that help the learner see it, hear it and do it (hands-on).

I have a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, 22 1/2 years of experience teaching grades K-4, Common-Core trained, phonics and reading trained, math, 6 Traits writing trained, and have earned recognition numerous times as teacher of the month.

I have experience working with many types of learners: ESL, Gifted, Autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities.

Making learning an enjoyable game, and helping young children be successful is my goal in teaching!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am qualified to teach students with ADD/ADHD because I have taught students with this disability for 22.5 years. I also have a daughter that has ADHD. I have read numerous books and have kept up-to-date on strategies for helping students with ADD/ADHD.

Students with ADD/ADHD require someone that can help them turn chaos into calm by helping them get organized, prioritizing, and guidance with impulsive behaviors. Students with this disability need guidance in recognizing their strengths and help with working efficiently, organizing, and interacting with others.
