About Nick

My name is Nicholas, and I am beginning my fourth (and final) year at Lee University in the fall of 2016. My major is in mathematics, and I have minors in philosophy and Latin. So far, I have been published in one academic journal (with two more papers currently under review), awarded the Ledford Scholarship for my research in mathematics, presented my work at four different academic conferences, and have been a three time recipient of Lee University's Honors Scholarship. I have also been invited to participate in both the Carnegie Mellon Summer School in Logic and Formal Epistemology and the University of Colorado Boulder Summer School in Philosophy.

When not involved in an academic pursuit of the aforementioned sort, I enjoy tutoring and have quite a bit of experience doing it for my age. I have tutored informally for almost as long as I can remember, for my mother was a teacher who attempted to instill in me the same passion for seeing others learn as she herself had. Formally, I began tutoring during my first semester at Lee University (Fall 2013) via one of Lee's community outreach programs. My involvement in this program lasted for one year after which I began tutoring Lee students through Lee's academic support program (Fall 2014-Spring 2015). This same year (i.e. my second year of university) I was appointed the teaching assistant for Dr. Timothy Miller, associate professor of philosophy, a position which I still hold (Fall 2014- Present). Beginning in my third year of study, Lee University launched a program called L.E.A.P. which provides many forms of assistance to students who are one or more of the following: disabled, first-generation, or impoverished. Due to my experience in both academics and tutoring, I was selected to be the lead mathematics tutor for this program, another position which I still hold (Fall 2015- Present). Through these various programs, I have tutored many students in many different subjects; however, most of my experience is in high school and college level mathematics, philosophy, and writing. I hope that I can meet your academic needs.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Besides the Logic which regularly comes up in standard mathematics courses required for a B.S. in mathematics, I have taken two Logic and Sets courses at Lee University (where I currently attend), and I received an A in them both. Besides this, I have, in conjunction with Lee University, offered tutoring for both of these aforementioned courses. Also, I was selected to attend (and now have attended) a three week summer seminar in Logic and Formal Epistemology at Carnegie Mellon University. I have also written a paper on Aristotelian Logic which is currently under review for publication in an academic journal (which I must presently leave anonymous for the purpose of blind review).
