Career Development

As part of my Master's degree in counseling, I am qualified to help people with career exploration and career development. There are many fun, interesting, and informative ways that an individual can begin to seek out the areas of work or career that are best suited to his or her own personality and desires. If you are interested in exploring career areas and avenues, or if you are currently working but are interested in finding some alternative paths for your career, I can help you find something that is suited to you!
Microsoft PowerPoint,

Microsoft PowerPoint

Power Point is so much fun! If you're needing to make a presentation for your business, school, church, or personal use, I can help you make it shine! Whether you are just starting and need to know the basics of running the program or are looking to add that extra spark to really make it pop, send me a message! We can work together to make your presentation truly special and unique to your needs!

Microsoft Publisher

Microsoft Publisher is a fantastic program! I have used it professionally and personally to make cards, newsletters, brochures, business cards, basic signs, flyers, programs for theater and music events, and websites. All of these publications can be created in a variety of sizes and shapes. The program allows you to create completely from scratch using your own imagination or you can use any of the many templates they supply. I can help you get started, throw some ideas your way, show you the ropes and some short-cuts, and help proofread your final project! Send me an email!
Public Speaking,

Public Speaking

My range of audiences for public speaking is as varied as the topics I've been fortunate to present on! First, I am a certified trainer and presenter for Time to Teach, a national organization that trains school teachers and administrators on classroom discipline. In that capacity, I speak to groups from 30-300 people at a time. Next, I am a licensed minister and have spoken in church settings of many types. I have presented to small groups and large community wide conferences. Finally, as a counselor, I have been asked to speak at seminars, conferences, and break-out sessions. Audience members as such events expect a level of professionalism that is only conveyed through proper use of public speaking techniques. In all of these arenas, my presentations have been well received, and I have been invited to speak again. Regardless of you current level of experience or confidence, I can help you prepare for your speech or presentation with as much success as I have had!

My experience in Macintosh work is varied and diverse. I am very well versed in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Publisher. I have used those 3 programs daily in my work as a teacher, counselor and minister to keep records, produce newsletters, brochures, movies/videos, conference presentations, and much, much more. If you are looking for someone to help with those specific programs, or computer usage in general: using the internet, safe document storage, scanning & saving pictures, or other things like that, I am your person!!! Please feel free to contact me for more information or to ask about your specific situation.

My masters degree in counseling as well as my internship in school counseling has offered me much opportunity to work with students who struggle with ADD/ADHD. I am adept in tutoring such students individually or in a small group as well as working with them as part of a class in the classroom setting. As a tutor, I can help your child catch up with his work as well as teach him some techniques to help while he's at school.

Dyslexia

I first encountered the struggles with dyslexia when my younger sister was diagnosed when she was in 3rd grade. I could see how hard school work was for her and I wanted to help in any way that I could! Fast forward several years as I found myself working as a school counselor. There were many students in my school who were struggling with dyslexia and not enough trained teachers to know how to help them. So I took some courses in working with students who have various learning difficulties and was able to not only help the students in my school, but also share with other teachers how to assist students who need special assistance. The experience was valuable to those students & I believe it can be to you & your student as well!

Great with my little one!

Penelope kept my little girl engaged and interested during their time together. My little one told me she had so much fun with her. Can't wait to have her back.

Excellent

My experience with Penelope was excellent. I had never put together a power point and she was able to quickly and concisely demonstrate how to do so. Prior to meeting with her, she had emailed me with questions regarding what I wanted in the PP, i.e., # of slides, animation, pictures, etc. She was prepared when we met, friendly, easy to get along with, and knowledgeable with computers. I am grateful that she was able to meet with me on such short notice.

Great Tutor!

Penelope has been a great help to my son in 7th grade math. She has taught him different math techniques that he can understand better. Penelope stays on schedule and on task. She ensures that my son understand what she is teaching him. It has been a pleasure and I know moving forward my son will continue to do great in Math. Penelope P. comes highly recommended from our family. Thanks again for everything!!!

Made us feel very comfortable and confident

Ms. P is a very friendly tutor who makes you feel comfortable and is easy to talk to. She came prepared with many materials for my son's first lesson and also made sure my son had plenty of resources to choose from to get the most out of the tutoring sessions. My son is trying to bring his ASVAB scores up even higher and will be taking the test in a couple of weeks. Ms. P understands this and has also given us plenty of dates to choose from so that he can get as many tutoring days in as possible before his test. My son felt he had learned a lot already with the going over his assessment test to see where his weakness and strength were. I already would recommend Ms. P to anyone who is looking for a caring and very well prepared tutor. She, as well as I, are eager to see his test scores after these two weeks. I LOVE that she shows care for his success. Ms. P is great at keeping me informed on his progress, so that I can also help him at home. The work she gives him have been great tools for his learning. She gives great tips on how to study and what to focus more on. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking to bring their ASVAB scores up. My son will be taking the test soon while everything is fresh in his head, and we will be letting her know how well he did, to her credit and his. She will help you, but you have to put the time in as we. She has been a blessing, so happy we found her.

A GREAT tutor...

A patient teacher who took the time to gauge and understand my son's strengths and weaknesses in order to target the areas he needed help in. The instruction and aid she gave in preparation for his ASVAB was very effective. She is able to quickly and effectively engage and aid her students in a manner that puts them at ease. I would definitely recommend her as a superior tutor to anyone.

A great tutor and she will work with your schedule

I was very pleased with Penelope. She is extremely professional and knowledgeable in so many areas (that's not even listed); is funny and has a sense of humor. She was able to discern exactly what I was trying to accomplish and gave me ideas I hadn't thought of to make my project complete. If you are looking for a creative person that will tell you the truth and at the same time respect your decision. Penelope is for you.

Patience and Professionalism

Penelope is a very patient and professional tutor. She is very adept in the art of teaching. Although, we have had only two sessions, she has guided me to vast improvement in all assigned areas of study. She inserts heart with knowledge to extract the best out me. If there was a position open for a tutor of tutors, Penelope would be a shining example. I plan to continue with her services after these lessons conclude. I would definitely recommend her to anyone needing a "Top Flight" tutor. Penelope continues to surpass all my expectations of what the sessions would accomplish. She is simply amazing in her knowledge, ability to teach, and her compassion for the student is highly commendable. Thank you for sending her my way. She has given me the strength to endure this process and the knowledge to succeed.

Can relate to a 17 year male football player

Penelope came to my home and worked with my son. He is a senior at high school and needed help with the English part of the ACT. He is weak on his Rhetorical skills. Penelope connected with him first by talking sports with him. That immediately got his attention. She made the lesson interesting which kept him focused. She worked around his schedule and one night came by after his practice. He was exhausted, yet she was able to keep his attention. He has a good skill to relate the student. She was awesome.
