MTSU (Special Education)
I was always involved with school when my children attended. Because I volunteered so much, I finally thought it may be good to get paid. This started my love of teaching. With 20 years of substitute teaching, being an educational assistant and finally getting my bachelor's degree in special education, I decided that teaching was my new career. My motto is "Every Child Can Learn"..that seems like such a simple concept but the fact is, not everyone believes that is true. I know in my heart and soul that learning is very tough for some children and it isn't that they can't do it, but that they haven't figured out how they can learn it. That's where I come in. My passion is to find the light switch that makes your child's eyes light up with the "aha" moment.
Tutoring is an important step to your child's education. Gone are the days where moms and dads can sit for hours and help little Johnny to finish his homework. The "new" math and "new" way of teaching reading is not known to today's parental generation. Then when moms and dads become frustrated, so do the students. My job is to help ease that transition. If I have to teach a parent in the process, I am okay with that. I want you the entire family to be able to relax at some point of the evening knowing that little Johnny is prepared for school the next day.
Every child can learn....Let me help yours do just that.

Currently I am a student teacher working with students in K-5th grade. I am current in all Common Core standards and know the latest and greatest learning strategies to help your child be successful in whatever subject they are struggling in!
Phonemic Awareness and Phonics is my passion. Without a firm foundation in this skill, reading is almost impossible. Over 90% of all students that struggle with reading have a deficit in one of the five areas of phonological awareness areas.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
