Five years ago, I began teaching my first 6th grade math class. My goal that whole year was to teach students to find the joy of math that is all around them. During that year, students asked questions, collaborated, and found a love of math that they didn't know they could have. I looped with these students, meaning I moved up to 7th grade math with them. We grew as a team and discovered new strategies and skills for problem solving. After two years of teaching 7th grade math, I had the opportunity to teach 5th grade math, science, history, and writing at a brand new school. It was a very exciting move!

While teaching, I was asked to host an after school tutoring group for my 7th grade students. I hosted this for two years and really enjoyed the reteaching opportunity I had. As a fifth grade teacher, I was asked to tutor privately for 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students. Each child had a different goal. Whether it was for remediation, confidence boost, test prep, or questions about homework, I was available to help, although they always had the skills in them. I was just there to guide and answer questions along the way. One student was able to qualify for advanced math at a private school she started attending this year. Proud of all my students!

As a math teacher for the last five years, I have been trained in many different skills and strategies that the county uses for instruction, as well as new methods that have been proven through research. Throughout the years, I was selected as Math Department Chair for my school, selected as the 7th grade math curriculum chair for the county, and taught several lessons while being observed by all math teachers and administrators in the building.

As you can see, I love making math connections with the real world and finding new ways to help my students do the same. I would love to help you find joy in learning.
