About Leah

I am a recent cum laude graduate from the University of Kentucky with two bachelor degrees in Linguistics and Folklore/Mythology, with a minor in Classical Studies. These two programs have allowed me to study a variety of subjects. In Linguistics I have studied Phonology, Phonetics, Morphology, Syntax, Grammatical Typology, Historical Linguistics, and Indo-European Studies. My Folklore/Mythology studies include Classical Studies (Greek/Roman religion, Ancient Democracy, Greek Tragedy), Germanic Mythology/Culture, Russian Mythology/Culture, and Appalachian Studies. I also know a little German and Japanese, but I am fluent in neither.

I do not have a lot of experience with tutoring or teaching, but I was always that friend that everyone went to when they were having trouble with school. I have always loved learning and I want to help others find what they love to learn about.

My background in Linguistics has taught me how languages work and how they are put together. While I do not have a degree in English specifically, I do have a passion for the English language and literature.

Due to my background in Folklore/Mythology I have a wealth of knowledge of the history and culture of many countries. I specialize in Ancient Greek/Roman, Russian/Slavic, Scandinavian, and Appalachian history. Be aware that I have more knowledge of ancient history and not so much current history.

If you are having trouble in any of these subjects please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Classics

I minored in Classics at the University of Kentucky. Among the classes I took are Greek/Roman Religion, Ancient Democracy, Greek Tragedy, and Gender/Sexuality in Antiquity. I have also taken a few art history classes of Greek, and Roman art. Since I only minored in Classics I only have knowledge of cultural studies and literature, but not languages.

Drawing

I have taken several art classes throughout my school career. In college I have taken Drawing I and Figure Drawing, as well as 2D art, which incorporates drawing. I was the recipient of the Scott County Art League Scholarship.
