About Sarah

I pursued education because I had inspiring teachers who instilled a genuine love of learning in me. In high school I fell in love with Speech and Debate, literature, and creative writing. Upon graduating from high school in Montana, I decided to move to Alabama to attend Birmingham-Southern College. Birmingham-Southern taught me how a liberal arts education impacts all areas of life. I graduated in 2012 with a Bachelors in English with a minor in Religion and a Distinction in Leadership Studies. My senior year I applied to graduate programs and in the summer of 2012 I competed for the state of Alabama on a slam poetry team before moving to Berkeley, California. In Berkeley I studied Theology and Art and graduated in May 2015 with my Masters in Theological Studies. I moved back to Chattanooga to begin a career in education and be closer to my family.

Throughout my education I have found myself working with kids and young adults from diverse backgrounds in a variety of settings. From Birmingham to Berkeley to Brazil, I have been able to work with so many individuals. I have a passion for educating children. I have taught in academic summer camp settings, youth ministry programs, poetry workshops, soccer camps, and currently work for a non-profit in Chattanooga, TN that teaches 10-12 year olds how to write plays for adults to later perform for a live audience. I love working with all types of students on self-expression through writing, reading, and public speaking. I'm qualified to tutor in English, Public Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Religious Studies. Ultimately I believe that education can open up the world to students and learning should be fun. I had teachers and mentors who believed in me and helped me to achieve so much in my life. I want to do this for the students I teach. If you want to have fun learning, then contact me!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have a Masters in Theological Studies from the Pacific School of Religion and was employed as a Youth Minister.

Public Speaking

In high school I competed on one of the nation's top speech and debate teams. I competed in Lincoln Douglas Debate, Extemporaneous, and Impromptu Speaking and placed at state as well as attended nationals. Recently, I taught public speaking to kids with Education Unlimited Inc.

Religion

I have a minor in Religion and it includes Christian, folk religion, Buddhist, and Hindu studies. I also have a Masters in Theological Studies.

Theatre

I studied theatre in my undergraduate English program. I was a stage manager at the SF Fringe Festival. I also volunteer at a non profit where I help mentor children in playwriting as well as act and make props.
