The University of TN at Chattanooga
For 7+ years I have worked as a private tutor with both general education and AP students in Highland Park and other districts. More recently, I have tutored both an international law student at SMU on essay writing and graduate students at the University of Texas, Dallas and Texas Women's University. I tutored a grad student at TWU for a year. She is finishing her degree this semester, so I am seeking a few new students.
I am highly proficient in English grammar, literature, and writing. I also have an avid interest in American history, government, and political science, having taken many courses in these disciplines in college.
I also feel called to serve students with special needs and learning differences--especially students diagnosed on the autism spectrum--both lower and higher functioning. I am patient, caring, dependable, respectful, and consistent. I empower students to achieve their IEP and personal goals to be successful and more independent.
I prefer to work in person to enhance my one-on-one time with students, including higher questioning, checking for understanding, and offering crucial suggestions, which may increase the work to a higher letter grade in some cases. However, I am willing to help online, if a sound rough draft is prepared in advance. I am also willing to do online tutoring if a rough draft is prepared. My rates are negotiable, and if a student wants more help, I will usually lower the rate as a courtesy.
Charles is very patient and will help you to the maximum. I am working on a paper, this particular graduate professor is very strict and very technical. Charles helped me 100% and believe I will earn a great grade. Enjoyed working with him.
I'm a unique case: a high-functioning Asperger's student trying to overcome anxiety issues, I needed organizational and motivational help on a research paper rather than specific expertise in the subject area. As an English major, Charles S. knew quite little regarding Intelligent Systems or fuzzy logic based computational algorithms. However, this was no obstacle! He was able to understand and take an interest in the subject matter when explained, and in fact encourage explanations out of me as a means to further refine my own knowledge of the researched topics.
Mr. S. speaks in a methodical, winding manner, yet at no point did my time spent with him feel wasted. His instincts on grammar and writing organization are honed when it comes to business, and in breaks, he's an interesting conversation partner who can take an interest in your own interests, great at making you feel comfortable. I can understand that this factor is important when working with those on the Asperger's spectrum! He was even careful to take note of our larger breaks and exclude them from the clock.
I contracted for help in overcoming my fears, moving forward step by step on a very ambiguous, complicated project. Thanks to my sessions with Mr. S., regardless of the project's eventual outcome, I received exactly what I'd hoped to out of the experience: the confidence that with help to take the right steps, I can work diligently and overcome the toughest challenges my graduate program has to throw at me.
Great tutor. Awesome tutor to analyze the student weakness before any tutoring session starts. He can provide all help required and is able to understand the student's disabilities and take it from there. He is very patient with student. I highly recommend Charles S.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My 8+ years experience as an assistant in special education, as a substitute teacher, and as a private tutor included working with ADD/ADHD students. I helped them with daily assignments, homework, studying for tests, and helping to administer tests in the academic support center at the high school level.
While I have a BA in English, I have had a life-long interest in American history, having won that award when I graduated from high school.
My elective college courses included American history, history of the South, the presidency, southern political ideas (Jefferson, Calhoun, et al), civil liberties, and constitutional law.
I was invited and became a member of the national history honor fraternity.
Since December, 2011, I have worked full time with autistic students in special education programs at both Conrad High School, (Dallas ISD) and Williams Preparatory, an Uplift Education charter school. Previously, I often helped higher functioning autistic students in Highland Park ISD.
I have a BA degree in English from the University of TN, and I have tutored students privately in Highland Park for several years, having been recommended by an English AP teacher at Highland Park High School. I also tutor students with special needs, including autism. I am very proficient in grammar and American literature.
As an undergraduate student in college, I took Constitutional Law, Civil Liberties, and Business Law. It is always a pleasure to help students in subjects in which I have a great interest.
I tutored a grad student in Dallas for a year before moving back to Chattanooga in January. I have a BA in English from UTC.
I have a BA in English, and I have 5+ years experience as a private tutor. As I have helped students with their assignments and during the writing process, I have introduced ways to organize their resources into actual folders or notebooks to stay organized throughout a term or course. I have also modified their organizational needs or created ways to enhance their study skills to accommodate special needs or learning differences.
I have a BA in English from the University of TN at Chattanooga. During college, I wrote many formal papers for classes within my major, including a course in advanced writing. While on staff as a teaching assistant at Highland Park High School, 2008-2009, I was recommended by English teachers, and I helped several students with junior and senior writing assignments. I have continued to tutor students, both in and out of Highland Park. Since 2013, I have been a full time teaching assistant at a local college preparatory charter school. It would be a pleasure to help new students.
