About Ellen

I currently teach Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students with special needs due to a developmental delay, language impairment, learning disability, autism or attention deficit disorder. Reading fluency, reading comprehension, math calculation and problem solving are the primary intervention groups that I facilitate. I also teach social skills groups and create behavior intervention plans. My role includes being the case manager for these students so I am their advocate in the regular education classroom, a liaison for their parents and a collaborative member of their IEP team which means that I participate in the identification and assessment process and create and maintain goals and services.

In addition, I teach gifted students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. In our small groups, I provide enrichment opportunities and build on their academic knowledge to challenge their minds.

As a tutor, I am committed to addressing the specific needs of each student. All children learn differently and respond to different methods of instruction. My method of teaching is based on finding out what motivates a student to learn and using that as a starting and reference point. My first step will be to complete assessments for a baseline of their knowledge and skills and then to work with the parents and student to set achievement goals.
I currently teach Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students with special needs due to a developmental delay, Read more

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
