I have loved teaching! It has always amazed me when a student goes from struggling to success. I've taught all of the required Tennessee state standards for second, third, and sixth grade in various schools. This past school year, I taught in an after-school program with homework assistance.
While teaching third grade, I tutored some of my students after school in math and spelling. It was important to find out exactly which areas of these subjects were causing trouble for each student. Once this was accomplished through observation, various activities, and looking at their graded papers, I planned out how we would target these areas so that each student could be brought up to grade level in each subject. In our tutoring sessions, we usually started with any homework the students had in those subjects so that I could assist with any questions. Then, we would do some different types of activities (many were hands-on) that helped with the target areas. By the middle of the school year, I saw great improvement with each student in both subjects.
Helping each student succeed is my primary goal as a tutor. I truly believe that a one-on-one approach is invaluable to the learning process. This is very difficult to achieve in a school setting; however, if a student and tutor put forth their best efforts, goals become attainable. I have loved teaching! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a Christian for over ten years, and in that time I have learned how to efficiently study the Bible. I know how to use a concordance, Bible dictionary, cross-references, and online sources to study specifics in the Bible. I have taught Bible classes to small groups of students. I also have my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education K-8.
I have been cooking since I was a young child. I have taught one semester of a cooking class to elementary grade level students in the after-school program in Monterrey, TN. I can teach measurements and cooking techniques that I have learned.
I have my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education K-8. I am highly qualified to teach all subjects in grades K-6. I have taught at the elementary grade level for four-and-a-half years plus one year of teaching in an after school program last year in Monterey, TN.
I played eight years of flute in middle and high school. I played one semester in the flute choir at TTU. I have taken an introductory music education class to be able to better instruct students.
I took a course in Music Education at college. I have over eight years of playing the flute under my belt. I know my scales and how to read music. I have been singing and reading choral music for many years.
I have taught phonics to my second graders who were learning to read, sixth graders who needed assistance in spelling, and a third grader who could barely spell his own name. I am beginning to use phonics to teach my own children their alphabet sounds. My mother taught us phonics at home. Learning to read and spell using phonics is vital to one's education.
