I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education, from Crown College in Powell, Tn. I have a special certification in teaching phonics. I have tutored 7 other students. With each and every student I have taken a look at their individual needs to determine what style of teaching would work best for the student. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a degree in Elementary Education from Crown College in Powell, Tn. I homeschool my own children. I have a special certification in phonics and I have used that certification to tutor 5 students who all jumped their reading level by at least 2 grades in about 2 months time. I have also tutored 2 other students in Math and English. When I was in high school I also did student teaching in the 3rd and 4th grade classrooms. I was able to assist and teach those grades in every subject. I did my college student teaching in the 1st grade.
I love music! I took a Teaching Music class in my training at Crown College. In High School I was in band. I played the trombone and the drums! I was also in our Select Choir where I was able to learn how to vary my voice skills.
I have taken a teaching music class as part of my training for my bachelors degree. Part of this class involved music history. I've also done my own studies in music history because this is a subject that I am very much intrigued by!
I have a certification in phonics! I have tutored 5 students who all came up at least 2 grade levels in their reading within a 2 month period as a result. I wholeheartedly believe that phonics is the fundamental element to all of education. This is the very reason why I took the extra time and money necessary to get the certification!
I graduated from a Christian High School. I am the wife of a youth pastor. I also have a minor in Bible to go along with my Bachelors degree! I have had 4 years of intense Bible studies along with my own personal studies over the last 16 years.
I took 4 semesters of Sign Language while in college. I was very close to being certified as an interpreter, however, I was unable to get the certification due to finances and conflict in classes.
I did take a Special Needs class as part of my Elementary Education degree! I also have worked with Autistic, bipolar, dyslexia, and aspergers when dealing with my nephew who is now 10. I also have dealt with the hard of hearing when working with my step brother who is now 7. I have also helped with many other varying special needs in work situations and within my family!
