While I initially went to graduate school to become a research scientist, my focus shifted to teaching after I found out I enjoyed it so much! I took on multiple students in one-on-one tutoring sessions every semester, and helped them to succeed in organic chemistry. College students fear organic chemistry more than most classes, but I assure you I can make it not only understandable, but pretty simple! There are a handful of basic principles (pKa, electronics, reactivity, etc.) that I use in concert with a student's homework, exams, and practice problems to turn organic chemistry from an overwhelming, impossible, memorization-fest into a predictable, easy-to-understand course. I am well-versed in basic molecular structure, orbitals, reactions, mechanisms (arrow-pushing), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, Infrared spectroscopy -- really anything addressed in undergraduate organic chemistry!

One of the best breaks from lab work in graduate school was teaching and tutoring! I have taught as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for three years in organic chemistry (6 semesters), teaching both in the lab and in the class. During this time I also tutored for both Organic Chemistry I and II on the side (class or lab). I also have four years of actual organic chemistry research under my belt!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I've been tutoring for a long time to pay for my teaching license, and the bulk of my work has been in high school math, chemistry, and ACT prep. Algebra I, II, and geometry were always subjects that I naturally understood, so deviating from my degrees (BS, MS in chemistry) came easy when it came to tutoring. I currently teach high school chemistry at a local private school, and math is so very important!

Chemistry

I got a bachelor's and master's in various chemical disciplines, where I also tutoring, taught, and performed research during those years. I now teach high school chemistry at a local private school, so I've seen all sides of chemistry through different levels of academia!

Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

I received my undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of Alabama (2012), and my graduate Master's degree at The Ohio State University (2015) in organic chemistry. I have researched various areas related to these fields for four years. My most recent projects are listed: - Synthesis of a novel macrocyclic library - Synthesis of small-molecule peptide scaffolds for drug delivery - Development and application of hydrogen-bond donor catalysts - Crystallization of aromatic compounds with redox potential. I have over a hundred hours in one-on-one or group help room experience, and served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for 3 years (6 semesters), teaching the organic chemistry class and lab.

Great!

He helped my daughter prepare for a college exam that is coming up. He was great! We have more time planned with Luke.
