About Reagan

I am a graduate from the University of Virginia College at Wise with a BA in Music, where I was the first student to receive a degree in music. During my studies, I studied bass clarinet and piano but participated in numerous ensembles: Marching Highland Cavaliers, Woodwind Ensemble, Concert Band, Concert Choir, and Clarinet Ensemble. I am now in the process of writing my first piano piece and bass clarinet piece. "I am feeling a need to write music, but my passion of performing gives me the drive to go further with my music career".

I am always up for a challenge with music, I like to push myself to be the best. I love tutoring students because it is different experience each day with your students. Also when you can be the role model of the students. I always think outside the box.

I encourage students to contact me is because the one thing that I won't let you do is quit because I don't believe in quitting, I believe of the person trying.

My schedule for lessons right now kind of up in the air, I am available any day after six o'clock Mon - Friday

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Clarinet

I played in the marching band from elementary school all the way threw college.

I studied while at the University of Virginia College at Wise bass clarinet and had that as my primarily instrument.

I can show any student the popular way of holding the instrument as well as playing.

General Music

I was the General music teacher for McDowell County Board of Education for three years.

The way I taught General music is putting real life into the lesson like when teaching them notes, I would take someone going on a car trip.

I also used material from the Kagan Workshop that I attended and one lesson we were working on dynamics and there was a game in my music book called Dazzlin Dynamics card game that the students really took too.

Music Theory

1. During my college education, I was required to take all parts of Music theory including ear training so that we can get our ears trained to hear what the chords sounded like in different position.

2. I find that if you don't work with music theory for a while it will be lost and very difficult to get back. That is why when playing piano and having my lessons if I was having trouble with a part i would see that basically it is a break down of the cords then after realizing that it comes easier for me.

3. When working with music theory you find that it does not matter what instrument you play their is always going to be music theory in that piece of music wether it is with a clarinet you have them M3 or m2 as well as a P5.

Piano

I tutored students that wanted to learn how to play piano at my home in Grundy, Virginia.

While attending UVA at Wise, I also studied piano as my secondary instrument.

I started learning piano when I attended my first year of college at Southwest Virginia Community College where, I was taught by Dr. Joseph Trivette.
