Vanderbilt Univeristy (Sociology)
A graduate of Vanderbilt University (B.A. in Sociology), I also attended the University of Memphis for extra course work. I have tutored my nephews (high school), and a female friend (an adult trying to earn a GED). I am patient and persistent. I try to explain concepts in the simplest and easiest manner. I like to instill in the student a sense of fun for learning. Understanding how frustrating schoolwork can be for both students and parents, I work with the purpose of getting the student to understand the concept first, so he or she can apply it independently to any problem later.
I also studied Russian in college, and have tried periodically to review it. I am trying to attend the University of Tennessee in the fall to take prerequisites (Russian Studies) so I can attend graduate school and get a Masters in Russian. My parents stressed education, and put all their resources in educating me. I look forward to meeting you and your son or daughter. I will do my best to help them do their best. Thank you.
Math has always been a strong subject for me. I have taken Statistics (A), Algebra (A), and Trigonometry (A) in college courses as well as having excelled in high school math. I love math, and try to explain it in the simplest of terms. I have tutored my nephews and a female friend in basic math and algebra.
While math has been a strong subject for me, English is my strongest subject. I took Honors English at a private high school, and did well in college, English Composition (A-) in addition to numerous courses requiring writing. I have also independently taken online courses, primarily screenwriting ones.
An avid reader, I try to keep my spelling skills sharpened. I constantly look up definitions of words and their pronunciation in addition to their spelling as well.
Strong study skills serve as the foundation for learning. While studying is work, there should be an element of fun to it. The tutor must help the student get to a point where the student looks forward to learning. This is critical to develop good study skills.
Having always been passionate about learning, I want to share my learning and the benefits of my own academic experiences. I hope you will contact me so I can help you and your child get the results he or she deserves. Thank you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
At Vanderbilt University, I had to enroll in a study skills course. I have many ideas on developing good study habits such as intensive study periods, fifteen minutes long at a time, and studying over time as opposed to cramming. Having tutored numerous students, I feel qualified in helping people in this particular subject.
