About Jonathan

I am an archaeology graduate student who is taking a year off between studies. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, have studied here in Chattanooga for my undergraduate studies and studied in Chicago for my master's degree. My career goal is to be a university professor. I speak German and French and have lived all over the world.

Obviously I have a passion for teaching and education. What I love about tutoring is helping students break through a wall and seeing them light up when they finally get it. It is like introducing them to a whole new world.

I have taught ESL classes and been a high school tutor. My academic background has required me to do a great deal of academic writing and high-comprehension reading. I have learned how to do both exceptionally well and can teach others.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Archaeology

I have both a bachelor's and master's degree in archaeology. In addition I have spent four summers in the field. I am thus well acquainted with both practical methodology and archaeological theory. My specialization is Near Eastern archaeology.

Bible Studies

I have a degree in pastoral theology and a master's degree in Biblical archaeology, which required both extensive exegesis courses and Christian theology classes. Therefore I am well-versed in major Christian doctrine as well as the Bible itself, both in English and the original Greek and Hebrew.

Religion

I have degrees in theology and Biblical archaeology (bachelor's and master's, respectively). I have thus studied world religions. Additionally, I have lived in Jewish and Buddhist countries, and have traveled extensively in Hindu and Islamic countries as well.
