Houghton College (Inclus. Childhood Ed)
I am a math and science teacher, and have experience with after-school tutoring. I have taught in an elementary, middle school, and special education setting. I tutored throughout college at multiple grade levels. I have also tutored a student in math for his 7th & 8th grade years. I have experience with elementary math, algebra, and calculus. I have also taught in the classroom at the first and fifth grade level. I can provide differentiated instruction to help each student make the progress they desire from tutoring.
I am currently taking college level math classes to push myself and continue to be a life long learner.
I love the small group or one-on-one time in tutoring to be able to meet students needs and watch them make progress. Students can make rapid progress when learning is fun and engaging and designed around individual interests and learning styles.
I have graduated with a math and science concentration. I have loved math ever since I was little, and have used my passion for math to teach my students to love math. I believe that math should be hands on and should relate to everyday life because math is something that is used all of the time, rather we realize it or not.
In my classroom, we have the philosophy that "science should be messy." We do hands on experiments to engage in science content. Real experiments help make learning "stick."
I'm excited to be able to help students learn by providing them with extra support outside of the school day! Please contact me with any questions. I look forward to the opportunity to help students experience success. I am a math and science teacher, and have experience with after-school tutoring. My daughter enjoys having Erica as a tutor. Erica has gone above and beyond by contacting her teacher to see what areas my daughter was having difficulty with.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
