Personal Approach to Tutoring
The purpose of education is to inform and teach students about foundational and in-depth concepts that are vital to the student’s life and career path. Students learn best by reading, writing, discussing topics that are conducive to the course, and receiving feedback from their peers and professor. While teaching, my primary goal is to ensure that the students not only learn information in order to pass the course, but information that will assist in becoming a competent professional. Additional goals is to assist students in becoming critical thinkers, discover, develop and enhance teamwork skills, experience self-directed and experiential learning, and be fully educated regarding the content of the course.
The most effective methods for teaching are preparation for the course, commitment to diversity, and effective teaching strategies that meets the needs of the students. Also, providing students with outside resources and tools to better assist the students in learning, building rapport with the students, and assessing the students by providing opportunities for presentations, oral exams, or requiring research papers are vital methods for effective teaching and learning. Without effective methods for teaching, how can one identify the needs of the students that will aid in becoming educated and competent professionals. Therefore, my methods of teaching are executed to introduce and prepare the students mentally and physically for the counseling profession.
Commitment to Diversity
The world is filled with diverse individuals whether it is skin color, content of character, socioeconomic status, or religious beliefs. Therefore, in order to serve others, especially in the counseling field, one must be aware that the population that is being served is filled with diversity. I am committed to diversity because I understand everyone was created differently and unique. I believe diversity makes us who we are as individuals and as a nation.
