Bio

Hello! I am a deaf wife with a fur baby at home. I have worked with special needs for years and also taught as a sub teacher whenever needed at my regular job (being a paraprofessional). My job of being a paraprofessional mainly with deaf students and those with special needs (deaf or hearing) for about a total of 10 years gives me the experience to help others. Hello! I am a deaf wife with a fur baby at home. I have worked with special needs for years and also taught as a sub teacher whenever needed at my regular job (being a paraprofessional). My job of being a paraprofessional mainly with deaf students and those with special needs (deaf or hearing) for about a total of 10 years gives me the experience to help others. Being able to help students thrive is so rewarding for me hence why I want to tutor. I want to help other students succeed in ASL whether it is in class or a hobby and feel good about themselves. I don't have much tutoring experience BUT I do have experience working with students in a school setting.

I am a deaf person with knowledge of using American Sign Language. I have been signing since I was 4 years old and have learned a lot through out the years and ASL is also my first language. When I took foreign language in college, ASL was one of them and I enrolled even though I knew signs. I ended up becoming the TA of the class and helped the professor teach ASL and practiced with students who needed help.

I have helped teach ASL back in college as a TA and have voluntarily taught random people how to sign and use facial expressions (for tone of "voice"). There was a special needs student that was mute when I worked as a paraprofessional and I taught her how to sign so she could communicate with her hands instead of having to use an electronic device to do the voicing for her. Also, I have worked as a paraprofessional in a deaf education classroom with secondary disabilities where ASL was the first language used in a classroom setting. Lastly, I became deaf at 2 and learned how to sign at the age of 4 and have been a fluent signer ever since.

Chelsey is a fun, patient, and knowledgeable tutor. She is helping me prepare for my signed communication certification exam. She has great ideas for helping me improve my expressive and receptive skills as well as improving my confidence in using ASL. I feel confident that I will pass my exam!

Chelsey was so kind and comfortable to communicate with. This was my second time using Wyzant and my first time working with Chelsey. I had made Chelsey aware that I have my SLPI coming up and wanted to practice my conversational skills with someone new in order to hopefully combat being nervous as soon as I see someone that I have never seen before when I have my SLPI. What made this session so great was that I felt I was having a true conversation with Chelsey, instead of it feeling like a tutoring session. She was very patient with me while we were having conversation, and also if there were any signs I was unaware of or if It was taking me a little longer than usual to understand what she was signing to me. 5 stars! 10 out of 10 would recommend Chelsey for any of your ASL tutoring needs!
