Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I am certified to teach in New Hampshire, and have completed my teaching internship at Winnacunnet High School. While I specialize in Social Studies, I am also proficient in Math, English and Science. With any subject, my goal is to help each student develop skills that will be useful long after our tutoring sessions are done.

American History

I have taught American History I and II from the American Revolution to the present. I am familiar with events and themes throughout our history.

AutoCAD

I have completed the AutoCad Basic course at UNH which covers the essential functions of the drafting program. In addition, I have spent 3 years doing AutoCad drafting for theatre set construction. My drawings included detailed visuals and text from which students were able to build scenery.

Economics

I am a certified Social Studies teacher in New Hampshire and have taught and tutored High School Economics.

SAT Reading

I am familiar with all aspects of the SAT and have developed strategies to help students improve their scores and take the Test confidently. I help students to become more comfortable with the Passage-based reading sections and understand how to read and answer questions efficiently. I use interactive software to develop vocabulary comprehension, and I show students how to answer the Sentence Completion questions.

SAT Writing

I have tutored the SAT for almost one year now and am thoroughly familiar with all sections of the Test. I help students know what to expect for the 3 writing sections: Sentence Errors, Improving Sentences and Improving Paragraphs. In addition, I have created a detailed guide for writing the SAT Essay.

Social Studies

I hold a NH Teaching Certificate in Social Studies (5-12). I have passed the Praxis II in Social Studies: Content and Interpretation, making me a Highly Qualified Teacher in Social Studies. I have taught US History, Economics, and Civics. I am highly aware of current events and am able to relate them to historical events.

Study Skills

I have received a Master of Education from UNH in Secondary Ed. I have accumulated study skills that I have used in my own studies and with my students including: time management, the Art of Slow Reading (Newkirk), prioritizing work, creating planners, goal-setting,
and Book Love (Kittle).

Theater

I have over 12 years experience working in professional theatre in carpentry, lighting, props, stage management, production management and directing. I have worked for 4 years as the Technical Director for a High School Drama Program, overseeing and teaching all aspects of technical theatre. I majored in technical theatre at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. My theatre work has frequently required me to teach and share my theatre knowledge and skills with other people.

SAT Prep, concentration in reading and writing comprehension and subject tests. Taylor's teaching style on how we arrive at answers, why we do, and how to look at reading material through different lenses will be invaluable.
