My desire to be a tutor comes from a love of teaching and learning. Although I have never formally tutored, I have experience mentoring and helping fellow students throughout my college career. I believe that one of the most important aspects of learning is understanding how students learn, and catering the lessons to match these learning styles. As a tutor, I will take the time to understand your specific learning style, and do my best to use this knowledge to enhance your learning experience.
My love of teaching prompted me to pursue work as an educator following my graduation in 2014. Since graduating, I have worked as an interpreter with the National Parks service, as well as a naturalist with SD Game Fish and Parks. These experiences gave me the opportunity to teach science to the non scientific public.
My greatest knowledge is in the upper level chemistry classes and upper and lower level biology classes. While in school, I was able to maintain a science GPA of 3.7 while attending class full time and working part time. Whether you are trying to get into med school, or finish your Organic Chemistry homework, I am sure that we can achieve your goals.
Currently, I am waiting to hear back on my medical school applications. I scored in the 91st percentile on the 2015 MCAT and was able to improve my MCAT score 10 points in 4 months while working a full time job and moving across the country. I have a knowledge not only of the material on the MCAT as stated above, but also the question types and test strategies to employ. In addition, my experience as an applicant puts me in a position to guide med school hopefuls through the process of applying. I am happy to assist with personal statements, secondary applications and the experience section of the AMCAS.
It is my hope that we can work towards your goals, I will not charge if a tutoring session does not meet your expectations. Please feel free to contact me if you have question, and I look forward to hearing from you and working towards your academic and career goals! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
