Dakota State University (Master's)
I have a decade of experience in teaching language arts and speech communication. In my most recent full-time teaching assignment, French at Spearfish High School, I led 28 students on a week-long trip to France. I taught for five years as a one-man English “department” at Montrose High School, where I taught all required grade-9–12 language arts courses: grammar/composition, speech, literature, and drama. I also taught two sections of Speech 101 at Dakota State University. I have substituted in Spokane and the Twin Cities, including a one-month stint planning and teaching the French 1 and French 3 classes at Mounds View High School in Arden Hills, MN. I now substitute at Aberdeen Central High School and Simmons and Holgate middle schools.
I have taught a variety of other courses. My South Dakota teaching certificate includes endorsements for math, history, English, Russian, French, geography, and instructional technology. I have taught high school algebra, pre-calculus, and physics. In addition to my speech experience at DSU, I taught sections of Microsoft Excel and business planning/management. As a teaching assistant, I taught Russian at South Dakota State University and the University of Alberta in Edmonton. I also traveled in Russia four times during the 1990s.
I started my teaching career as a math tutor during my undergraduate studies at SDSU in 1990. Math was one of my majors. I keep my math skills sharp with regular use of spreadsheets to generate charts and graphs for my blogging. I won't just tell you answers; I'll work through problems with you by patiently asking questions to find out what you know and to help you discover how to solve problems for yourself. My job is to put myself out of a job by helping you learn how to do math yourself!
I enjoy tutoring Math, English, and everything else on my resume. Contact me now, and let's get your grades up! I have a decade of experience in teaching language arts and speech communication.
