I live and teach middle school math in York, SC. I have been teaching middle school math and pre-algebra for the past sixteen years. My qualifications include certification in Elementary Education, and Middle School Math. I am also highly qualified in Middle School Math. One-on-one tutoring in elementary language arts and math, as well as middle school math and pre-algebra is my favorite part of teaching. I also enjoy helping students with computer assisted instruction. My private tutoring experience includes reading, writing, and math from second graders to juniors in high school for the past seven years. I am helping the high school junior with his SAT Prep.
My specialties are the algebra, geometry, and fraction concepts in math. In language arts, I am great with vocabulary, grammar, and writing conventions. I always begin by asking my students where they feel they are weakest and need the most help. From doing homework to studying vocabulary to correcting tests, my tutoring covers it all. Building confidence and raising grades are two of my main goals. As confidence builds, and grades go up, I present more challenging activities, or work on test preparation. First and foremost is always starting with small successes to build confidence. I absolutely love when my students say, "I get it!"
My tutoring always begins with a free consultation with student and parents. This is very important. Parent, student, and tutor are a team with one goal, to help the student. Most parents get involved because they want to know how to help their child. My schedule is usually fairly flexible if scheduled times need to be changed because of a doctor's appointment or school event. I do appreciate a notice the day before if we need a change.
Most of my students show much improvement in their grades, but just as important to me, their confidence. Please give me the opportunity to build your confidence and raise your grades with my tutoring. I am looking forward to hearing from, and working with you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For the last ten years, I have been teaching at an alternative middle school. Students are sent to the school mainly for behavior problems. ADD and ADHD students are sometimes sent to us for help in focusing and academic improvement. I have worked closely with many students with attention problems, both in the classroom, and individual tutoring. I have training in the strategies these students need to see improvement.
For the past seventeen years, I have been teaching middle level math, pre-algebra, and transition algebra. I have tutored students in math for the past eight years, including Algebra 1, and Algebra 2. I am very confident that with my experience, and a student's hard work, Algebra will become much more manageable. As a result of my tutoring, students will be well prepared for daily math classes, and for future math courses.
I am certified in Elementary Education. I have classroom taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. I have tutored elementary age students in math and reading. I always work with students from where they are academically. I meet with student and parent to tailor a program designed for their child. From reading comprehension to times tables, my goal is to serve parent and student to the best of my ability.
I am certified and highly qualified in Middle School Math. I have been teaching sixth, seventh, and eighth grade math for seventeen years. I have also been tutoring privately for eight years. I tutor students in second grade through a junior in high school, mainly in math. I am certified in Elementary Education. I have eight years of experience teaching third, fourth, and fifth grade math. This school year, I have been teaching the Common Core Math standards to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders.
My GED experience includes helping high school students prepare for exams, and standardized tests, like the SAT, and ACT. The more preparation students have, the more confident they are when they take their test. The more confident they are, the better their test scores will be. Working towards a GED is a great way to prepare for a successful future.
I am certified and highly qualified in Middle Level Math. This includes sixth grade math, seventh grade pre-algebra, and eighth grade transition algebra. I have seventeen years of experience in teaching sixth, seventh, and eighth grade math. I have taken three graduate level courses in middle level math. Two of these courses were from STEM,(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) grants designed to train teachers in the Common Core Standards. I took those during the summers of 2011, and 2012 at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. This school year, I am teaching Common Core Math to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. My experience and training truly make me "Highly Qualified" to teach middle level math, and pre-algebra.
Why hire me? I have nine years of experience in tutoring students from second grade through high school. My students always show much growth in their confidence and skill levels, as well as better grades in school. I am certified and highly qualified in elementary education, and middle school math. I have ten years of experience teaching third through fifth grades, and eighteen years of experience in teaching middle school math. Ten of these years were in an alternative school setting. Why does this matter? It matters because many of the seventh and eighth graders were on fourth grade, and sometimes lower math, and reading grade levels. When a student gets to middle school, and is that far behind, they become at-risk students who are likely to drop out of high school. I have planned and implemented classroom and computer assisted instruction for these students. I saw many of them show much improvement in their math and reading skill levels, and get back on track. My expertise in math and reading make me a prefect person to help your child. I know first hand how imperative it is that students read well in the early grades. I also have seen the results of those great reading skills. Please give me the opportunity to help your child.
As a result of teaching at York One Academy in York, SC for ten years, I am qualified to tutor special needs. All of our students are considered special needs. I taught middle school math to many students with IEP's. I also planned and implemented computer assisted and classroom instruction for students one to four years behind in their math, and/or reading levels. I have years of experience in adjusting curriculum and daily lessons for special needs students.
I have taught writing for a total of about eight years. I have worked with students from third through eighth grade in writing. Every year for the past ten years, I have helped prepare students for the PASS Writing Test for South Carolina. I really understand how important penmanship and writing are for success in school. With new Common Core Standards, writing is becoming a part of every subject, including math. With my experience, I am well qualified to help students of all levels with their writing skills.
