Hello! My name is Jeffrey. I graduated cum laude with my Bachelor's in math and a minor in computer science. Math is a fascinating subject but for many people can be a hard subject to grasp. Throughout my education, I've come to understand that oftentimes the key to understanding concepts in math is to visually see how these concepts work and to do plenty of practice. This is how I try to direct my tutoring - I show what the concept really means, past all the symbols and definitions, and then work through practice problems together while keeping in mind the underlying intuition. Different people also learn in different ways, so I work to tailor our sessions for the individual. I also work outside of our sessions to prepare materials that help in your learning.

I have a two years of experience tutoring various levels of math to people of many different backgrounds, anywhere from middle school to postgraduate. Additionally, I tutored calculus to eleventh and twelfth-grade students one on one for a year. Students who needed extra help in understanding concepts from class or in tackling homework problems could drop by during a period of two hours every weeknight. This tutoring was offered through a program by the high school itself where several tutors would be available for different subjects in which students historically faced difficulties.

My primary concern is the success of those I work with, so please let me know if you have any comments, concerns, or suggestions. Additionally, feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to schedule a session. I look forward to hearing from you!

My first time encountering Discrete Math was through the honors sequence in the math major at the University of South Carolina, where I received an A in both courses. I am currently conducting research in the area of Discrete Math for my honors thesis. Additionally, I routinely apply knowledge of the subject to my studies in both Math and Computer Science.

Patient and Thorough Algebra Exam Prep

I am a returning college student and adult learner. After 10 years out of school, I decided to go back. I had to take College Algebra. I got through the course but my retention was awful. After that initial course, I then immediately had to take an additional placement exam for consideration into a computer science program. I get highly anxious taking exams. Additionally, I recently found out that I have dyscalculia, which is math dyslexia. I explained all of this to Jeffrey and we got to work. Jeffrey was very patient and never judgmental. He took the time to help develop a strategy that worked for me. With just over 2 weeks to prepare, we came up with a game plan and stuck to it. He customized the problems and practice for me and after six lessons I went in for my exam. I passed with the score I was aiming for on the first attempt! I am so grateful for Jeffrey and his approach to tutoring. He is also very accommodating and flexible with schedules and lessons. I wouldn’t have passed my exam without him. I feel so much more confident in the concepts we studied as well. Super tutor status!

Explains math concepts well

Jeffrey takes time to explain the math to my daughter and is really thoughtful that he explains it in a way she can understand. My daughter is in a virtual Pre-Calc high school class so the explanations Jeffrey provides are priceless.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

Jeffrey was extremely helpful in assisting me with my studies of discrete mathematics and foundation of computer science. He helped me with understanding topics that have been difficult to learn in my scheduled lecture classes. His teaching is thorough and easy to follow.

Thanks a lot!

Very great session. Spends time getting to know your problems and helps you fix them. He also does a great job explaining!
