I have been a teacher for twelve years. I am certified to teach second through sixth grade students. I taught sixth grade Math for ten years and then fifth grade Math and Science for two years. I was selected by my peers as Teacher of the Year in 2009.
I have tutored many students in my twelve years of teaching. I love helping students be successful in the classroom. I enjoy seeing them become more confident in themselves, which allows them to become more confident in the classroom. I try to instill in each student that hard work pays off and we aim for that during each session.
I have taught Math in a 6th grade classroom for ten years and a 5th grade classroom for two years. I know the skills necessary to be successful in elementary and middle school Math.
As a certified second through sixth grade teacher I have been taught the skill set needed to help students develop reading skills. I have tutored students in the past to improve pronunciation, word recognition and reading comprehension. I have helped students improve their spelling of words and use of vocabulary.
As a teacher in the public school system, I am familiar with and have taught common core standards. Also, I am knowledgeable about how to access and implement common core standards.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
