About Rebecca

Hi,

My name is Rebecca and I graduated in 2012 with my Master's in Psychology (my Bachelor's was also in Psychology, with a double specialization that includes Child/Adolescent Psychology). I have tutored in the past in pre-calculus and elementary reading and math. I am also a published author, with my second book (a children's book) coming out in late 2013 to early 2014.

My background in psychology helps me to better understand children and how to communicate with them. My approach to tutoring starts with building a relationship with a student and understanding how they best learn, including any necessary worksheets to help supplement their experience.

I have had success in the past in helping students conquer their 'troubling' subject and look forward to helping your student conquer theirs. I hope to hear from you soon.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have a B.S. in Child/Adolescent Psychology and Human Services & Counseling. I also have my M.S. in Health Psychology. Much of my studies have been on children with a variety of disorders and diagnoses, including ADD/ADHD.

Special Needs

I have a B.S. in Child/Adolescent Psychology and Human Services & Counseling. I also have my M.S. in Health Psychology. Much of my studies have been on children with a variety of disorders and diagnoses.

In college, I worked at a Salvation army camp that catered to a wide variety of children, from varying backgrounds and that had various needs, both physically and emotionally. This included down syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and autism, among others. The wonderful thing about this camp was that no child was refused entry due to a physical or mental disability.

Volleyball

In high school, I started off as the lowly scorekeeper/manager of our varsity team. I wanted to eat, breathe and sleep volleyball. After that, I played on the team for three years, including earning my varsity letter my senior year.
I then went on to help coaching the JV team before leaving for college.
Volleyball is more that just bump, set, spike. It's a game of strategy and learning to play with your strengths and as a team.
There are a few positions that one can take up on a team: Middle blocker, Outside hitter, Opposite, Libero, and Setter. The Setter runs the plays on the court for the team. There are also specialist that a coach may employ during the course of a game. These can include serving and defensive specialist.
Only six people can be on the court at one time and the movement on the court is clockwise. Each team is only allowed three touches on the ball while the ball is on their side of the court.
There is a ten foot line on the court, which separates the front and back row. Anyone in the back row cannot cross the ten foot line before attack the ball.
Scoring occurs on a rally system - each serve results in someone scoring a point.
Each match consists of up to 5 sets. A winner is declared when one team has one 3 sets. One wins a set when they reach 25 points, but they must win by 2 points. If the match gets to 5 sets, the last set only goes to 15 points, but it is still a win by 2 points situation.
