My name is Linda and I am a firm believer that learning is something everyone can come to enjoy if the teaching method is right. We all have different ways of learning, but certainly, when it is fun, it is easier and sticks with us longer. I majored in Psychology in college with a second major in English and a minor in drama. An interesting combination that describes how I see life! I chose to homeschool my children, one of whom has special needs, and I focused on, not only teaching them but getting them interested in and excited about discovering new things and experiencing the sense of accomplishment that comes with self motivation.
Having 5 children (including twins!) ages now 25-19, I have exceptional patience and a variety of ways of keeping even the most apathetic student engaged. Parent interest is paramount, so I will want to keep the parent involved in their child's progress. Curiosity is a great driving force. I utilized this belief as a trainer for Bellsouth, AT&T and DirecTV for the last 8 years. Now that my kids are grown, I want to try to share my love of learning with others and I hope you will become an important part of my new adventure! Hello!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In college English was my second major. I took Creative writing classes as well and was a teachers aide for a while. Over the years I have taken classes in Spanish, French and Latin and have a great interest in learning others. I can say a few words in many languages and enjoy learning about the differences in syntax. Currently I am learning a little Japanese and Korean. I hope to help others feel more comfortable with English, and to learn more myself as we go!
Reading is too undervalued by today's youth, considered a chore instead of the pleasure it should be. Some of my favorite ways to help students discover that reading enriches life is to utilize reading skills through activities they ALREADY enjoy, whether that is gaming, anime or movies. Students actually find themselves not only reading more, but doing RESEARCH on their own time.
