I am a teacher for a living with 6 years of teaching experience. I have been in the classroom, done small group teaching with after school and summer school programs, and I have done one on one tutoring for school age children.
I am currently serving in my 13th year as an educator. I have taught in Greenville and Spartanburg counties. I have taught 1st and 3rd in the classroom and worked summer reading/intervention with other elementary grade levels. I currently serve as an assistant principal. I love being in education. It affords me with the opportunity to work with families. I am able to see many teaching practices in place and the creativity teachers bring to the classroom environment. I am able to help with progress monitoring to determine if current practices are working and what the next step is for the students we serve. I also love that I am able to help shape students and help them feel empowered every day!
I love working with children to make a difference in the whole child with hands on activities and those catered directly to the learning style of the student. I believe in firm and consistent routines and procedures. I am also a firm believer that everyone can learn if they are pushed to their potential and believes someone is there for them. I also think that learning should as fun as possible to keep the individual engaged. I love watching students progress over time and realize their potential.
I am also a mother, so I bring those life experiences with me as well. Being a mother teaches patience, understanding, dependability, fairness, and that sometimes trial and error works. We teach students to be problem solver and how to arrive at answers that way, so life sometimes is no different. I believe in teaching student how to overcome and keep working toward their dreams.
I hope you have found a connection to your beliefs in what I've shared. I would love an opportunity to partner with your family. I strive to teach students not to accept defeat, but learn a lesson then get back up to keep fighting. I am a teacher for a living with 6 years of teaching experience. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have 12 years of experience in the elementary setting with 7 years teaching 1st grade and 3 years teaching 3rd and in my 2nd year as an administrator.
In my career, I have worked with students in small groups, provided after school tutoring and enrichment, and I have worked in summer programs as well providing instruction.
I have many years of experience with reading strategies and have some project based learning experience through professional development opportunities.
I am also in this setting daily experiencing the most current best practices for students this age.
My reading recovery experience provided knowledge with intensive phonics instruction and how to implement it when working one on one with students.
I taught 1st grade for 7 years where phonic came alive daily in the classroom.
My afterschool and summer program granted me with the opportunity to work with phonics with the goal to strengthen student ability to use phonics in the classroom.
As a early childhood degree candidate, we were taught how to incorporate phonics into instruction.
