University of Connecticut (Pre-Law)
Capella University (Master's)
I am a 16 year veteran of law enforcement, working in Federal, State, and Municipal agencies during my career. I obtained my Masters in Clinical & Counseling Psychology last year. My goal from the day I started my Masters work was to complete it and move out of law enforcement. I have arrived at that time - looking forward to the future.
I have a Bachelor of General Studies (area of concentration was pre-law) from University of Connecticut (Go Huskies!). I have bookkeeping/accounting experience - over a decade. I am a small business owner, times two! I consider myself a Renaissance woman, I have a variety of knowledge and experience that comes in handy in many situations!
Personally, I am very happily married with two awesome children. I love doing outdoor activities. I also love to hit the thrift stores and see what I can dig up and repurpose. I started judo and jiu jitsu about 4 months ago and just love it. I started so I could learn the sport and help my kids - as they both are competing in different competitions and tournaments in the area. Finally, I love camping!
I have a Masters in Clinical & Counseling Psychology. In all I have over 150 graduate credits in psychology studies. I have every intention to start my PhD in 2017, and since I already completed some of my PhD courses, it should not take me very long.
Both at work and in my graduate studies I have been commended on my writing. Some professors have noted that my content, grammar, and sentence structure are excellent. Friends and family call me the "writer", because in the past I have written many letters to companies and received positive feedback as in coupons, free merchandise, and in some situations cash refunds on products. As for public speaking, I have been presenting material publicly for well over a decade. I have been involved in community events, charity events, and educational events.
I am comfortable using both Microsoft and Macintosh products. I own all Mac products, but use Microsoft products at my jobs. I am very easy going. I have heard it said, "A good teacher is always willing to learn along with their students". I believe in being open to new experiences and situations, and allowing others to experience new things as the teaching process evolves. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have had formal training in career development in my Masters of Clinical & Counseling Psychology. I have also developed and marketed a small business that has tripled its profits in a 6 year period.
Six years ago I switched all our computers, phones, and tablets to Macintosh (Apple) products. It was by far the best decision I have made for our business and for my schooling. I have been running our small businesses from a Mac for six years and it has been great!
I have been doing public speaking for 17 years. I have done large and small training presentations. I have presented material on several topics to audiences ranging from 5 to 200 people. I have also done press conferences for media and the public.
