I have taught for 17 years in SC public schools. I've taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th grades and Reading Recovery. I have spent the past 4 years teaching reading intervention at an elementary school. I have a BA in elementary education and a MA in elementary education with a concentration in reading/literacy.
I have a reading teacher certification and will be going through the Reading Recovery certification process again this coming school year. I love to read. I love to teach children to read and to love reading and have had much success with both.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Part of my undergraduate degree included a class on teaching children to correctly hold pencils and teaching formations of letters. My reading recovery training also included specifics on teaching children to form letters easily using words and the letters are written down.
The concentration of my masters degree was reading and literacy. I was required to take several classes on teaching children to read including the phonics aspect of the reading process. I have taught phonics using the Spires program, Reading Recovery, and Fountas and Pinnell's leveled literacy interventions.
