About Josh

From the earliest age, I have asked "why?" about everything in life. I found the tools to explore life's questions in a liberal arts education, which culminated this May when I graduated with honors with a B.A. from Patrick Henry College. Critical thinking, common sense, and breaking every issue down to its building blocks can provide a lot of insight into almost any issue.

I teach math, English, and social sciences to middle and high school students. I enjoy every opportunity from helping someone's grasp of a subject go to the next level to reviewing the basic concepts of a discipline. I also have am flexible, so my cancellation policy is one hour and I will work with a student to schedule a makeup session.

Algebra, geometry, and other types of math that may appear on the SAT are made up of basic building blocks of logic. Learning the logic and following the steps has taken me a long way, including scoring a perfect 800 on the math section of the SAT on my first attempt.

The three steps of learning how to write well are grammar, logic, and rhetoric. Grammar is the basic rules of English that makes your sentences correct. Logic is the way sentences fit together that gives your writing coherence. Rhetoric is the aesthetic value of your writing that makes it compelling. Understanding this progression of building blocks has made my writing better, and will improve yours as well.

I'm a history buff with a lifelong interest in American history. I can teach the subject at a range of depths--whatever you need.

I encourage y'all to get in touch with me about setting up lessons. I promise I don't bite!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
