I have held at a college the dual role of business instructor and accounting lab tutor; while at another college had the primary role of accounting and math lab tutor. I've taught a diversity of students in accounting, inclusive of institutions serving an international mix. My teaching experience has involved, at minimum, principles and intermediate accounting, at community, four year, graduate level colleges, and prison educational programs (maximum and minimum security facilities).
I am well versed to helping beginning students in accounting, understand the basic principles. I have seen and know many of the difficulties that are encountered and have used a variety of approaches that improved the performance of students. Often you interact with a student to assess what they get and do not get; steps they have attempted; and then utilize some initial efforts backed with examples, and suggestions, to see what starts to progressively move the student forward.
My background includes an undergraduate and masters in accounting; I have further held positions in accounting that cover budget and forecasting, managerial and cost, payroll, billing and payable, financial reporting and analysis. So, I am well tuned to help link on the job duties to classroom work.
My emphasis in tutoring will be on principles of accounting. This is primarily for students taking their first and second semester of beginning accounting type courses, regardless of their educational level; also for business folks who may desire to know more about an introductory level of accounting and how it relates to record-keeping and reporting needs.
I currently write on economic matters relating to technology, sports, and green energy.
Typically, I am best available in the evening hours during the week; except on Wednesday where I have flexibility for the entire day. However, my schedule does change that sometimes offer earlier arrangements. Please inquire and ask. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
