About Roselynne

Learning any subject is easy once you know the tricks! I love to teach with games, puzzles and real life examples of the topic. If you are having a problem in reading or writing, we'll use pictorials, examples, and demonstrate, in writing, how to read a sentence, break it down into subject/predicate, nouns, adjectives, verbs, etc. We will read fun stories together (if needed) and review sentence structure.

I am an extremely patient person. We all have had those subjects in school that makes us wonder why we are learning it in the first place. There are also those times that we think we will never understand it. My answer to any and all of these issues are, "Take a deep breath, relax and smile. " It is surprising how well the brain works when you are happy and relaxed."

I earned my Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education, graduating with a 4.0 in my educational studies. I have an Illinois Teaching Certificate in basic learning skills in math, writing, English, and art. I have worked in after school programs with students ranging in age from 3 to 13 years old. This demonstrates my ability to assist with many topics at many levels in school.

In my personal life, I am a busy mom who has three children, ages 24, 21, and 16. My 21-year-old was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome when he was 7 years old. I attended many seminars, doctor, and school visits, and support groups to do anything and everything I could to help him with this disability. I am proud to say that, as of today, he attended regular high school and excelled in ROTC. He is now preparing to apply to a trade school.

In what little spare time I have, I love to do crafts like beading, crocheting, painting, and sewing. I also love to read, write stories and essays. I love to laugh and enjoy life and possess a great sense of humor.

A CEO once told me, "There is nothing so serious in life to be so serious about." I wholeheartedly agree with this statement and will share this mantra with my students during our tutoring sessions.

Thank you for reviewing my profile and I look forward to working with all of you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

I have been drawing my entire life. I took many art classes throughout my schooling (i.e. pencil and charcoal drawings, watercolors, painting, crochet and some knitting, and papier mache, etc.). The hands on approach and feel of artistic mediums bring the student closer to realizing the importance of foundation to achieve successful outcomes in their creative activities.

Sewing

I have been sewing since I was 7 years of age. I design and draft my own patterns, understand construction of a garment, quilt, handbag, slipcover....You name it, I have made it. Sewing is very exciting, especially with all the new fabics on the market and the creativity involved in adding those special touches that make the item you are working on your own (i.e. beading, patches, fur edging, lace...)

I can teach you to sew from step one all the way until you draft your first pattern and anywhere in between. I will provide a list of sewing essentials in your sewing kit and walk you through setting up your machine if that what it takes. I can even help you in fabric and thread selection and sewing machine setting and needle selection so that you will get optimal results.

I make sewing "Not scary." Together, we will have fun and learn to enjoy this special art form.

I look forward to working with you.

Study Skills

Having trouble studying those one or two subjects that drive you crazy? I can help you learn how to study, remember what you have learned and provide insight in to how you learn. Before we get started with your first session, I would give you a test to see what type of learned you are. If you already know that is wonderful and I will get you going from there.

I used to have a horrible time studying. I couldn't remember those most important details and instead froze up at test time or when I had to write an essay from what I had learned. I no longer suffer fro this dilemma and am now relaxed and receiving perfect scores in my tests and writings.
