College of Charelston (Biology)
Clemson University (Master's)
North Carolina State University (Graduate Coursework)
I began my professional teaching career 7 years ago at the college level. My teaching duties have focused on introductory biology and human anatomy and physiology. During my coursework as an undergraduate, I took a wide variety of courses ranging from plant physiology to dinosaur biology. Physics and chemistry were also required as part of earning my Bachelor's degree. As a graduate student, my studies focused on entomology (the study of insects). So I have a firm foundation understanding biological principles as they apply to many different areas of the discipline. I am very familiar with Microsoft Office and have taught classes related to using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
As a high school, undergraduate, and graduate student, I voluntarily tutored many students on top of my coursework responsibilities. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with my students and watching them improve. I am new to the WyzAnt community and look forward to the opportunity of working with students on a one-on-one basis to help them succeed with their educational goals.
Science can sometimes feel overwhelming to students because of all the specialized terminology which comes along with learning the discipline. I approach each subject with laying a foundation of understanding the big picture first, then progressively honing the details. I like to use worksheets, presentations, outlines, videos, and other media to present the concepts in as many ways as possible to reinforce the subject material.
I specialize in tutoring the life sciences: biology, zoology, and anatomy & physiology at the high school or college level. I also have experience with general chemistry, physics, and mathematics and am comfortable tutoring these subjects on the high school level. If you are interested in learning how to use programs within the Microsoft Office Suite, I would be glad to help show you the basics.
I am happy to offer services at my place of residence, the residence of the student, or an alternative location; whichever is most convenient for the student. I do have a 2 hour cancellation policy.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to achieve success in your pursuit of knowledge. I began my professional teaching career 7 years ago at the college level. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
